Let me answer.
1. Paycut is very unlikely
2. Even more unlikely unless he signed a long term contract with good money and playing for a championship caliber team.
3. No. He needs to start at PF and then slide to SF to be effective there.

I think the main reason he didn't take the extension here was because he wasn't guaranteed a starting job next year. He wants to start and he believes he is a starter.
- Is he okay with coming off the bench?
See above. Getting minutes behind All-Star Griffin is something that I'm not sure Milsap would be fine with.
- Can he start at Small Forward and be effective?
In certain matchups it works, others it doesnt.
More often than not, I'd say it wouldn't work. When the opponent puts up a SF that's supposed to be a 2 or a 4, then the matchup works. When the opponent puts up an actual 3, then it's tough. It works perfectly for us against Minnesota last game because they were using Derrick Williams and Shved at the 3.
Overall though, Milsap's an amazing player. Fringe All Star. Plays the game smart and comes up big in late game situations.

He turned down a slight raise from the Jazz already. I'll say "no" on the paycut.
He has stated over and over again how he views himself as a starter. I'll say "no" on the coming off the bench.
He has no lateral quickness, no ball handling skills, no catch and shoot ability, no ability to guard SF's. I'll say "no" on the SF.
The Clippers make this trade for one reason. A deep run this year (a rotation of Millsap, Griffin, Jordan would be very good), resign Paul in the offseason, and clear money off the books (I think they send back Butler).
Probably no to the paycut, but if they send back Butler and Bledsoe you'd have almost enough to sign him with that space right there. I think 10m ballpark gets it done. He hasn't liked coming off the bench here, but it's possible on a true contender he would just want to win. Basically, if Millsap is amenable to being (along with Crawford) a super sixth man, it makes a lot of sense. He would absolutely dominate backup PFs consistently and can play spot minutes at the three.

Millsap turned down the richest possible contract extension he could be offered by the jazz before the season started. And many believe he won't resign in the offseason because of Favors and Kanter, who are viewed as the future at pf and C, and has made it quite clear, that he doesn't want to come off the bench, but that might be just for us. Some feel he would be fine with coming off the bench for a contender.
Millsap deffinetly can't start or play big minutes at sf. He's undersized as a pf, but he is a true pf, and is most effective at pf playing spot minutes at sf. He's a scrappy defender, but ineffective in post defense due to his size he can't guard bigger pf's, but he poses matchup problems for them as well. When he's not in love with his fadeaway baseline 15 footer he's a very aggressive at taking his man off the dribble with his killer crossover. If the Clippers do trade for Millsap, is he can be a very good closer in late game situations, and would be Paul's best friend in those situations, and a lot like Billups in that he is always hitting big shots at the end of games. If he is willing to come off the bench as a sixth man, he may be your teams missing piece to a championship
The upside to Millsap is he is extremely skilled as a pf, he does a everythig well to great and gets his nose into everything.
The downside is, if he doesn't like his situation, he can sometimes pout and go through the motions. But playing with Paul I don't think that will be a problem.
He would be a fan favorit and take a lot of pressure off both Paul and Griffin.

No, the main reason was money. The Jazz couldn't offer him as much money in an extension as he felt he could get in the off season.
I think Millsap was (and is) correct in that position.

Do it then. Just trying to shed some perspective. Where are the indications that this trade is anywhere close to imminent? There are none. Carry on.
Seems pretty obvious to me what's happening.
1. Clippers would prefer Garnett over Millsap, but would likely do either for Bledsoe.
2. Boston wasn't taking trade seriously - Clippers leaked trade to put pressure on Clippers while also getting Jazz fans excited to attempt to temper any deal with Spurs for Jefferson.
3. Garnett states that he'll only opt-out of clause if Pierce is gone as well. (This seemingly confirmed by Stein at ESPN in latest column.)
4. Boston begins exploring Pierce for Josh Smith talks.
So for us to get Bledsoe:
A. Smith for Pierce talks would need to break down, or Hawks would have to have a better offer.
B. Thus causing Garnett to not opt-out.
C. Clippers would have to be happy with the addition pieces being proposed in the deal with the Jazz.
D. KOC and Lindsey would have to like the offer better than what the Spurs are putting forward.
And interestingly enough, I'm pretty sure that whatever offer the Spurs have made to the Jazz, they've also made to the Hawks for Smith. So this really is a fight between Boston and Utah at this point, over who can get the deal done - Spurs and Clippers look to win out either way.

Its not just this trade its any trade. We better make a half way decent trade. Millsap or Jefferson has to go, we can get something for them that is better than letting them walk. We could make some other trades to make this team better as well but I at least hope we clear up playing time for Kanter and Favors.
