How? Haven't we already been over this? You can't sign a bunch of other players and then re-sign your own free agents. If they want a shot at a big-name, they'll have to dump Butler, Bledsoe and Crawford at the very least (or Jordan and Butler/Bledsoe) AND renounce all their free agents aside from Chris Paul in the summer.I think the Clips want a vet who helps them win this year, and at the same time, they move a couple contracts that open up salary for a big-name free agent this summer. Both moves make Chris Paul happy, and CP re-signs.
Millsap for Goran Dragic. More likely then Bledsoe

edit: You mentioned Miami in your earlier post. Keep in mind that Chris Paul's cap hold (equal to the max he can be offered this summer) + Blake and DeAndre's 13/14 salaries > the 10/11 salaries of Lebron + Wade + Bosh. Further Jamal Crawford makes more than the 4th highest paid player on that Miami team, Mike Miller. After that, the Heat had 2 players (effectively) making more than the league minimum, Haslem and Joel Anthony (who made a combined $6.7mm in 10/11). It is unclear whether the cap will be higher or lower than it was in 10/11.
No.Would you guys trade Millsap for Bledsoe + Filler?
Not really. They have to renounce all their free agents and exceptions to claim roughly $6mm in cap space. The non-taxpayer mid-level exception is worth $5.15mm next season. Unless Chris Paul is taking a big paycut, they gain less than $1mm of flexibility. We have been over this. They dump Bledsoe and Butler in this deal. Billups, Barnes, Hill, Turiaf and Odom become FAs, and they decide what they want to do with Jordan this summer. They may not get another max guy, but they'll have more flexibility with this trade.

Sure. They can't be players in free agency unless they dump DeAndre, Chris Paul takes a lot less than the max (a la Lebron, Wade and Bosh) OR the cap increases by an unexpected amount. At the very least, they could re-sign Paul Millsap, who probably represents more value to them than Butler/Bledsoe.
Might be less than that $6mm as well, as 1) I forgot to include the $500k to cut Grant Hill, and 2) the cap may go down. It's entirely possible that even after dumping Bledsoe and Butler, and renouncing all their free agents except for Chris Paul (and renouncing their 1st round pick), the Clips have less cap space than the value of the mid-level exception. Not really. I wonder if the Lakers would trade Dwight for DeAndre and Paul Millsap, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
That's not how the cap works.but either way the Clips will have the flexibility to decide what to do with the $9.8M that Bledsoe and Butler represent.

He has to say that to try to assert Dwight's trade value. If Dwight doesn't commit to re-signing with the Lakers and says he wants LA Clips, Brooklyn or Houston, then the Lakers have to move him or give up the idea of Kobe making the playoffs again.
The Lakers are in a tough spot: massive payroll, lousy team, aging vets, best player ready to leave.
