Millsap Happy With Jazz Offseason So Far

He's happy because we are making "win now" acquisitions. I wonder if his happiness will remain once the Coach asks him to come off the bench. I hope so.

Paul has to know that the 6th man role is looming, right? There's no concievable way Corbin gets a pass for not starting Favors. I really hope Paul buys into it. In that article he talks about the new guys building chemistry but I think the biggest key to Utah meshing this year is Paul accepting coming off the bench.

In a perfect world, Ty would talk to Millsap about this way before training camp to give Millsap time to be ready for it. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if the conversation about this didn't happen until training camp.

I agree. Having Millsap and Burks on that second unit would be HUGE for the Jazz. That would be one of the biggest team improvements in my opinion. Millsap would beast against the backups of this league.

Considering he was the 6th man for the start of last season, yes, I'm sure he knows somewhere down the line it's likely. It's hard not to see it when you have two #3 overall picks on the bench who can both play your position.

Absolutely agree with you.

He was sour about the role last season and that's what concerns me. Maybe now that Favors has more experience under his belt, Paul will be more understanding this time around. With Sap taking a bench role, Utah's second unit might just be better than a lot of team's starting 5.

Yeah, I think that was because it was a bit premature. Favors wasn't ready to play consistently.

I would rather see Jefferson off the bench. His "no pass" offense would be better against 2nd units and Favors and Sap's off ball movement and cuts would be better for the starters. I don't know if Favors would like to be the 5 on a full time basis but in my mind, that's the best O and D moving forward.

Sign him to an extension now and then make him the sixth man of the year! If he sticks with the Jazz for another 3-4 year contract, his jersey will hang in the rafters.

A---FREAKING---GREED!
Jefferson off the bench boosts scoring.
Millsap off the bench means that he is competing with hustle guys.

Millsap started the season coming off the bench and it didn't work.
Millsap + Favors >>> Jefferson + Favors
Jefferson + bench puts more points on the board than Millsap + bench
Millsap + Favors + shooters puts up a better team than Jefferson's no-pass offense
Jefferson's no-pass offense is needed off the bench

Why not ask Jefferson to be the 6th man?

Then at the end of the season or at the trade deadline one or the other gets the role as Kanter comes into his own.

Woot!

Interesting, I hadn't even considered Millsap in that light. Would 5 years at say, 16/8 be good enough to justify retiring his jersey? I don't think so. Millsap has been very good, but not great. Not a dominant player. And I say that as a big fan of Paul.

Just averaging that alone wouldn't be enough to retire his jersey. But if he averaged that in helping the Jazz get to the finals in a few years that could change things.
