What's new

Millsap/Jefferson 62 min 11 rebounds

I thought it was more important that OKC did not get an easy basket in that last 4 1/2 minutes. Harden got 2 offensive boards in that time but that certainly wasn't due to Al. No other player on their team got an ORB during that time.

Yup. That is what Josh Howard gave us. Hayward and Miles rebound well at times, but they aren't as aggressive as Howard is at crashing the boards.

Hayward certainly has the physical tools to be a superior rebounder for a 2 guard as witnessed by his 8 boards last night.

However, he is usually looking for transition points and getting back for transition defense and not in rebounding position to average very high rebounding numbers.

Burks looks to be a superior rebounder for a 2 guard as well, and has the speed and athleticism to both be involved with fast break opportunities and put himself in gold rebounding position.

No stats are exact. But noticing how things play out during games and seeing the drop in allowing rebounds when Millsap or Jefferson is out is noticeable.

@ Phoenix (Average: 10) L 111-120 (Allowed 10 Offensive Rebounds)
vs Minnesota (Average:12) W 111-105 (Allowed 9 Offensive Rebounds)
vs Golden State (Average:10) W 99-92 9 (Allowed 3 Offensive Rebounds) Jefferson out
@ LA Lakers (Average:11) W 103-99 (Allowed 7 Offensive Rebounds) Jefferson out
vs Oklahoma City (Average:10) W 97-90 (Allowed 15 Offensive Rebounds)

I know some people on here love Jefferson and some people on here love Millsap.

We all want one of them gone this summer. I am not bashing 1 particular player. Its the combination of Millsap & Jefferson that I am bashing here. I am just excited for next season so I don't have to watch Jefferson & Millsap both watch the ball go towards the hoop without boxing out.

Favors and Kanter take up space so we get rebounds as a team or so they get them.
If nobody else saw how they were getting offensive rebounds over the Millsap/Jefferson than you must be blind.

Sap is an awesome player. Big Al is a disposable feature for Jazz rotation's current status. I think Jazz can keep scoring even if he's DNP. Hell it even gets better for the other bigmen if you trade the guy for a pass-first pg.

I felt like Jefferson did a much better job of not being a black hole last night. I never felt like, **** me, Jefferson's ****ing **** up. I wonder if our wins without him opened his eyes even more as to how important ball movement and such is.

Maybe, he saw the way out of Utah and tried to keep his salary cap up by scoring as much as he could, then thought noone would give him that much anyway so he'd rather stick with the team, be a ball movement guy. Nah it's just exaggeration, he looks like a nice fella to think through all those. Turns out I am not however.

Millsap was far from awesome during February. In fact, he sucked big time. Can't say that about him during March, where he has been excellant. Why that is I have no damn clue.

But frankly, this up/down behavior has been his MO since his rookie season. If we make the playoffs, it will largely be because of Millsap. But if we miss the playoffs, it will largely be because of Millsap. Oddly, Jefferson's performance -- which has been very consistent -- will have little impact on whether we make or miss the playoffs.

Make of that what you will.

I think this team goes as Millsap goes.

Al shouldn't be closing games. Favors or Kanter (whoever is playing better) should be in there, and we should be running it through Millsap.

Al is the only player on the team who can consistently score 1 on 1, which is something that needs to happen at the end of the game.
