What's new

Missing 1 piece

1. Worse starting frontcourts have won championships.

2. At this point, AJ is more expendable than Sap.

Yes, with elite 1-3 play which we'll never have, the Pistons team not withstanding. That said, can this frontcourt win it.

More importantly, what are you basing your response to number two on? A play/pay analysis. I'm not disagreeing with you but don't you see his height being an issue? I believe you've said not if we have a solid defensive five behind him. Yet you say we can't get Perkins. So who then? Who, according to you, would or could be attainable in the next two years to be that defensive five behind Millsap, if the right trade, free agency period or situation occurred? Nene? Who?

I mean this genuinely, not argumentatively.

I'll take my chances with Sap + AJ + Memo over AJ + Afflalo. That's my main contention. I don't think banking on unlikely free agent acquisitions is the way to go. If the Jazz manage their assets well, a lot of things could potentially happen (and, yes, some risks are worth it), but something as unlikely as 1) signing Perkins and 2) that working out isn't worth dumping the second best player the Jazz currently have.

Timing is HUGE in building a champion (the Jazz have been a victim of bad timing at least twice in their history). You never know when the stars will align, but getting overly anxious and managing assets poorly based on a hunch/low probability outcome is stupid IMO.

That's all.

and that's why looking for an improvement at the 2 is more worthwhile. The Jazz are so bad there, they could potentially improve the position quite a bit with a small amount of risk (maybe?).

Are you talking about the 03-04 Pistons?
That Pistons team actually had a bigger and better frontcourt than ours. Wallace was defensive player of the year around that time and the other Wallace was no slouch on defense either. And offensively Rasheed could do it all at that time.

I cant remember the last time a team with a PF/C as small as ours won a championship. You might have to go back further in history.

The only team with a PF as small as ours was Charles Barkley's Phoenix Suns. They lost in the finals to the Bulls. Their center wasn't much to speak of, but they had all stars at the 1, 2 and 3 spots.
