So I'm guessing there are few people here who are playing card enthusiasts. But what has happened is a large plastic playing card manufacturer, Modiano Playing Cards, was contracted by Desjgn (pronounced "J Design") Playing Cards to produce a new line of cards.
Desjgn is a local independant playing card company. I'm pretty sure it is a one man operation. The owner is Jason and I have played poker with Jason several times, although it has been several years. He has played poker at my house. We were in a league together around 2006 I believe when he got his first shipment of cards with his design.
The most recent line of cards was offered in a kickstarter campaign and as a group buy on pokerchipforum.com. When the cards were delivered it was discovered that the backs on the red decks had different hues and it was possible to tell them apart, sometimes to the point of being able to identify a specific card.
This was brought to the attention of Modiano and they first denied the possibility, then the people who received the cards started to contact them and even showed unboxing videos where the sealed cards were opened and you could see the difference from one red card to another right out of the box. Modiano dragged their feet for months, this came to light in November 2017. Jason has finally given up as the promise that the President of Modiano would contact him directly was not fulfilled. He is now going to have another playing card manufacturer make the cards and replace both the blue and red decks for everyone who has purchased the cards.
So if you are ever in the market for plastic playing cards, first consider supporting a local small business, but no matter what, please don't give Modiano any of your money. They have absolutely no integrity and do not stand behind the products they manufacture.
