More dreams: swap Mudiay + filler for Chris Dunn

Once we have Baynes, Conley, and Clarkson anchoring the offense of the bench, we can then obviously afford one more move to help capture a championship.

And this move is obviously to trade Mudiay and other minor pieces to Chicago for Chris Dunn. The dude can shut the water off. He’d be a great asset as a defensive specialist in the upcoming playoff battles.

Chicago drafted White and signed Sato. Dunn isn’t a starter in this league, and they probably would rather commit dollars to another position. I have more research to do about whether Dunn’s qualifying offer was picked up, etc. And I’m sure Chicago likes him more than they did in September. But I still think he’s gettable. If we acquired Baynes and got full-health Conley, then our offense would be stabilized throughout the rotations. It would then be valid to acquire this kind of help.

flame away.

I would put this low on the list of priorities given the glut of guards on this team (and I wanna see what Tucker can do) and the situation with bigs (or lack thereof) is first and foremost.

As far as Dunn himself, he has been completely off my radar.

Time to put him on your radar cuz I’m Nostradamus.

I think the Jazz more glaring issue is getting a PF who can shoot and rebound. I think Bradley can hold the fort down as backup center. He had a nice game yesterday. I like Dunn as a defender but you are assuming a little too much here.

I think this stretch is going to mislead us regarding Bradley. If we have to roll the rest of the season and post season with Bradley, we’re ****ed.

However...

If we keep rolling with him and he keeps having good games, he might actually be an okay asset to throw-in.

I think Dunn for Mudiay is a horizontal change. Dunn is a great defender. Mudiay can score.

Mudiay came here to learn. Let's have that be a great experience and a spring board for his career so others like him want to come here to do the same thing. Trading him sends the wrong message. Mudiay is getting better month after month. He is shooting the 3 better, making better decisions, and he is affordable.

Having said that, I think that Dunn is the perfect replacement at the end of the season after Mudiay goes to greener pastures. Dunn is a high draft pick who has under performed and wants real coaching and development to spring board his career. 'Dunn signs as a free agent in Utah this summer to follow in Mudiay's developmental path' sounds like the title of a tribune article.

I like Dunn btw.

Jazz play Orlando tomorrow (I'll actually be there). I'll keep an eye out for the next NAOS pet dream.

I'll guess Mo Bamba.

I would think they’d want something else for him. Not sure why they’d want Mudiay.

I like Dunn for his defense but his offense is meh.

His assist to turnover ratio which was a knock coming into the draft is no longer an issue but I'm wondering what his basketball IQ is and how he'd fit in the system.

He’d fit as a defensive specialist getting approx 15 minutes a game. He’d fit the same way a left-handed pitcher with a screw ball would fit into a bullpen: you don’t start him or make him your closer, but he’d be helpful in certain matchups as a set-up guy.

He’d be very helpful down the stretch and in the playoffs

Mo Bamba would be the perfect get IMO. He at least brings a semblance of what Rudy does on the Defensive end. I think if we get to the playoffs and had an 8 man Rotation. Conley, Mitchell, Clarkson rotation at the Guards. Bogy, Joe, and Royce at the Wings with Gobert then Bamba playing backup at Center would give us a real shot at competing with anyone.

Why would Chicago do this? Jim Boylan is a defensive coach, why would he trade a good defender for a meh defender?

Not disagreeing as it would have been nice to have put Exum on Harden during the playoffs but these are the things people said about Exum (defensive specialist especially needed for the playoffs).

But that’s not what Exum ended up as. Dunn is a better defender and has found more ways to stay on the floor, in general.

And if the Jazz FO had Exum’s role pegged as a defensive specialist, then that only furthers my claim that Dunn should be on the radar since we now have nobody pegged for that role.
