I'm not 100% on the exact criteria. Though, I don't think it has to advertised state-wide. It may have just been in Tooele county and Wendover.

I hear you about being counter-productive, but that's the way it is, at least right now. They always do seem to nab a few DUI's though.
 
They've been taking the blood of babies at birth for decades now, I don't see why some cop shouldn't be able to jab you with a needle. Maybe rough you up a bit....pin you down....and then jab you....have a little fun at your expense. I'm of the opinion that if you refuse the breath test, you're probably working for Al Qaeda anyway.
 
I am in total agreement with KEK, and I love it when a real cop comes into a thread like this and lays the smack down. I just wonder how ol' Marcus would feel if one of his kids was killed by a drunk driver. Think he'd still be up in arms about his personal freedoms? Doubt it. I would gladly get stopped at 10,000 checkpoints if I knew that that checkpoint would stop one single DUI. Piss on you *** wipes that drink and drive.

I thought conservatives were all for states being able to make up their own rules? I get so confused with states fighting against the evil empire (federal govt) and claiming that states rights are being taken away. Then flip flopping and asking that the fed gov step in when their own states make up rules.

so if the cops suspect someone of terrorism can they just put cameras in their home and car? if they are not terrorist what do they got to hide.

now that we are at it lets just put cameras in your home what have you got to hide?

i'm all for saving lives. i hate drunk drivers if one even nicks my car i will probably spend a couple of nights in jail.but still we should not give up certain freedoms to save lives potential hypotethical lives.

I told you something a couple of weeks ago that has given me a great deal of insight into who I am as a person and how I would, and have reacted, to certain situations that affect my kids. I can honestly say I would feel the same regarding checkpoints.

That being said, piss on you *** wipes that drink and drive!

I don't think you agree with me. I think law enforcement should target certain criminals and their destructive behavior to prevent tragedy. I'm in favor of profiling. What I can't stand is them treating everyone like criminals, like with the airport scanners.

Or checkpoints where everyone gets checked for DUI. It's like I said earlier, we are swiftly moving from an "innocent until proven guilty" to a "guilty until proven innocent" society.
 
I was taking my brother to the airport (running late of course) when we come over a hill in Sardine Canyon and see about 10 cop cars. They were doing a check point for expired registration. Fortunately for us, all the cops had someone they were talking to so we got through without delay. But it made me stop and think about what would have happened if I had been stopped. I had nothing to hide so maybe it only would've taken a couple of minutes. But something about them wasting my time to catch a few vile criminals driving with expired registration rubbed me the wrong way.

As to the drunk driving thing, I personally think that anybody caught drunk driving should get some severe punishment. Those that drive drunk and kill people aught to get a free pass to death row.
 
Those who do not exercise their rights are destined to lose them. We're on the slippery slope, sliding down. It's happening right now. And every time we say, "If you're not breaking the law you have nothing to worry about," and concede one more thing to the guilty-until-proven-innocent mindset, we lose a little bit more of our country.
 
I agreee with the above in some ways, and disagree in others, and it's not really something I can easily quantify or explain.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this particular law - I'm not particularly comfortable with the idea of a mandate to draw blood, but that doesn't mean I want to see impaired drivers allowed on the roads.

One thing in general is that often we confuse rights with privileges. Sorry if I sound sort of preachy here, but I think of driving as a privilege, not a right. You earn the privilege by proving yourself capable. It's not really a matter of having to "prove your innocence" as some of the posters seem to be saying.
