What's new

Morris Almond

This just in, Mo got an assist last night one in 29 minutes of play vs. the Cavs. He got 5 points in those 29 minutes on 2-9 shooting. He looked to be the first guy off the bench for the Wiz in a win vs. Cleveland.

Detroit didn't trade AA. He signed with Denver after his rookie deal expired.

You didn't even read your own link:
Afflalo was widely seen as one of the most attractive talents on the free agent market, but the fifth-year player, who came over from Detroit for a second-round pick in the summer of 2009, clearly wanted to stay in Denver.

Mo Almond is the poster boy for why you should draft BPA and not to fill a need and I hope this is considered should the Jazz get Golden State's pick this year.

If that's the case what do these players say about KOC's drafting skills

Williams
Hayward
Millsap
Burks
Kanter

Every gm has wins and losses in the draft.

Paul was better pick then Williams, George was better pick then Hayward, agreed about Millsap - he was the best KOC pick ever, Burks looks very promising but to early to tell, Kanter is to early to tell but he does not look as promising as Burks.
There is always Snyder, Lopez, Borchardt, Pavlovic, Humphries and yes Almond. I think Kosta was decent pick at that time he just had no benefit of getting playing time under Sloan.

For where they were picked Pavlovic and Humphries aren't busts they are still contributing in the NBA, just for other teams. And the only reason Lopez is brought up is because of Parker being picked after him but Lopez on his own merits was a fine pick if it wasn't for 2x ACL tears and I didn't like the Borchardt pick but KOC tried to do what many people always whine for and that is he was a big risk big reward pick.
But again if you want to say I'm making excuses that's fine KOC still has a good average comparing against all other GM's.

It's hard to criticize KOC for Williams over Paul. First off, Williams was pretty special here. Second, from all insider reports, KOC wanted to draft Paul but was over-ruled by Sloan and LHM. The same with Lopez - He was mandated to draft a player who would not be on the roster for that season because Miller didn't want to pay a rookie when the roster was pretty full and the salary cap was exceeded.

The Borchardt pick was on KOC. The others were measured gambles and I also think Hayward over George isn't that bad a pick.

i still believe that the lopez draft could have been a coup if it hadn't been for that injury. young raul was a very special player -- and even after the first injury, he was more solid for the jazz during that transition period than people give him credit for in hindsight. the guy had a legitimate shot at being a parker-type player.

and as far as evaluating the dw over paul draft... first, i agree with YB that dw was pretty good hear. secondly, it's important to remember that it's not like we have nothing to show for that draft. dwill netted us favors, harris, kanter and one more pick that's yet to be named.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Yea because one mid-1st round pick superceeds the success he has had. Not very many people thought Almond would even fall as far as Utah.
Almond was also drafted because we didn't have many wings on the roster at the time, IIRC. It was clearly a draft for need pick. Almond was an elite offensive talent, but he never saw the need to play defense nor pass the ball to his teammates. If he ever changed his mindset, he might be able to have a solid career, just like Kris Humphries when he woke up and decided to actually start working hard on his total game.
