Moses Malone Dies in His Sleep

RIP. I think I saw one Moses Malone game live. He was on the Bucks, I was at my grandparents watching it on a little 10" tv, I thought he was Karl's brother so I was cheering for him louder than I probably should have been and he went about 20/10. Actually a pretty vivid memory for me considering I was probably 3, 4, or 5 at the time.

Relentless offensive rebounder, great team player.....and if he had been on the Jazz during the Stockton/Malone era while in his prime, the Jazz would have won 6 championships not the Bulls! Wouldas, Couldas, Shouldas!
 
I remember Moses absolutely dominating Kareem in the first NBA Championship I ever watched live (83) - I think he averaged like 20/20 in the finals. Up to that point I think Kareem had his way with pretty much everyone in the playoffs.

Caldwell Jones, Dawkins and Moses all die within one year -- must be a virus taking out Sixers centers. Look out Mutombo and Ratliff.
 
I had the great privilege to see Moses play when I was just a little boy. First to jump from high school to the pros, signing with the Utah Stars of the ABA. Still remember turning to my dad and saying, "that guy is going to be very good someday." Just a shame the Stars folded. But they wouldn't have been included in the merger anyway.

Zach Harper notes a measure of Malone's greatness: "From 1979 to 1987: Moses Malone averaged 25.5 points and 14.1 rebounds per game. Since then? No player has averaged that once in a season."

Farewell, Moses. I followed your career from the Stars to the NBA, cheering for whatever teams you and Ron Boone played for.

I noticed out of the corner of my eye NBA legend Malone dies, and my heart sank. I thought it was our Malone for a second.

Still sad to see Moses go, and way too young. RIP.

Seriously, I had the same reaction as you did.
 
There are basketball players, there are all stars. And then there are people that are extraordinary human beings that you get to know through their talents. Without basketball only a couple people would've known the value that Moses brought to people's life. Through basketball he brought his personality, his drive and dedication, and all of his traits to the court for us to learn from. Basketball is more than a sport. And those who followed him learned value in everyday hard work. He will be missed. Remember, tomorrow is never promised and he is a perfect example. Who ever you are today, you can be better than the you of today come tomorrow. Life is precious. Longer for some, shorter for others. When is it your time? Everyday you wake up is an opportunity. Don't waste it.
