His contract expired and they didn't extend him. They didn't fire him.

olbermann plays in the same sensationalist system other political pundits do, but ann coulter he is not. coulter's a troll but olbermann makes a point of owning his tirades and making them personal to him so i get the feeling he actually believes in the things he says
given that he's a proven profitable personality though, and given that he was fired by a competitor, maybe fox news will take a run at him after all, lol.
It really does seem to be a mutual parting. Curious to see what he does next.
I will at least say that he didn't engage in any of the silly "I'm non-partisan" pose that other similar talking heads take up, and for that he at least deserves some credit for honesty.
As for the sudden "last show" I think you're seeing a company get gun shy of letting someone continue after it's obvious the show is ending after Conan completely killed them to huge audiences for 2 weeks.
