Assuming we keep all of our draft picks, this is how I would like things to pan out. (as of now. I might change who I would like at #5)
Draft Night
Draft Aaron Gordon at #5:
Gordon gives us a spark off the bench for next season. He will provide needed defense for a team that was ranked last. Coming off the bench will allow him to get use to the nba and develop better. With the hard work he has shown his shooting should get better. I wouldn't put him as a 3 until his shooting gets more consistent. We don't want him forming any bad habits of being to trigger happy. Gordon will also give this team some needed excitement with the plays he makes. He's got good handles, bbiq, passing ability, and defense. Plus them hops.
Draft KJ Mcdaniels at #23:
I'm not too sure about this pick, but I could see Mcdaniels being a good future piece. Right now the Jazz need depth and talent coming off the bench. Mcdaniels fills the need of a SF if Williams is not brought back. He's got potential to be a good role player for the future. There are a lot of different choices at this pick as well, but I'm drafting by need right now. Mcdaniels also adds some athleticism and should be a solid defensive player.
Draft CJ Wilcox at #35
CJ Wilcox will provide the Jazz with one of the most glaring needs that we have, which is shooting. He's a proven shooter with last years stats being 52 fg% and 39 3pt%. He has solid potential to be a great role player and piece on a contending team. He could step in on day one and provide the needed shooting on this team. He doesn't have that great potential to improve a whole lot, but this makes him a safer pick. Plus he's got roots from playing at Pleasant Grove high.
Free Agency
Sign Hayward:
So far I've drafted with the expectation that the Jazz will resign Hayward. I'd put the maximum money for him at $11 million, with anything under that being a good price. Most comments from Jazz personal have pointed towards the Jazz keeping Hayward. Plus if we want to get back to the playoffs we need to keep the talent that we have. Hopefully with Coach Snyder and the pieces we will have on the team Hayward will get back to his better shooting percentages. If the Jazz didn't resign Hayward then I could see Williams being resigned for the starting SF or Gordon starting at that position.
Sign Shaun Livingston:
I'm not too savvy with contract talks and what not.. but ya.. guess I'd offer $15 million for 3 years.
The 6-7 Point guard would give needed size at the PG position with Trey Burke starting. He'd be a great mismatch off the bench and give some competition to that starting role. He'll add needed defense as well.
Sign Marvin Williams:
Sign him to minimum that we need. He adds great veteran help that will be good for this young team and he can play SF off the bench. We already know pretty much what he can do from the last two years.
Try to Lock up Kanter and Burks:
I'd offer Burks a $7 million contract and Kanter a $9 million contract. If anything I'd get Burks locked up and have Kanter prove what he's worth, but I feel like both of these contracts could be great deals. If we don't lock them up, we will be sad next off season...
Our 2014/2015 team.
Burke/Livingston/Garrett
Burks/Wilcox/Clark
Hayward/Williams/Mcdaniels
Kanter/Gordon/Evans
Favors/Gobert
Team goals: Defense and out running the other team! It'll be interesting to see what Quin Snyder can do with the team next year. Let the offense come from taking good shots and passing the ball!
Unknown decisions:
I wasn't sure what to do with Neto...
Spencer Hawes might be a good player to look into, but we have enough bigs now... would have to sacrifice time from Gobert.
Really, really, really young team here. I didn't really know who else to go after if we don't want to sacrifice time for the young guys. Pretty sure this would be the youngest team in the NBA. Might be hard for Snyder to coach....
I really want to have Burks as the starting SG.
I was interested in Jordan Clarkson as well with the #35 pick, but like Wilcox better...
Igggght well what do you guys think? I'd like a good discussion about this
