My bid for Joel Embiid

I've never said that. Listen, without a star you have nothing. I'd give up Hayward, Kanter, Burks, Burke, Favors and Gobert for a star for 7 years. I can build around a star. The Jazz have nothing build around.
Really? You can build around a star?
Jazz tried that for YEARS when they had two of the ALL-TIME BEST stars in Malone and Stockton. They could never assemble enough pieces. Give up too much for a star and you end up with trying to overpay for FA's. And unless your name is Prokhorov, you simply don't have enough $ to go shopping every year.

So, Cleveland comes to you and says, "we want Burke, Burks, Hayward, Kanter and Favors for #1. You say yes or we hang up."

What do you say?

I say yes.

I say hell to the no.

The ironic thing is, is I draft a bust #1, we probably both get fired the same year. You in 3-4 years because your core has maybe made the playoffs and me in 3-4 years because I drafted a bust.

But if take Embiid, and he's an All Star in 3-4 years, I still have a job.

You trade everything for him. I don't watch college basketball, and I rarely get moved by highlight tapes, but his atlheticism for that size is unreal. I don't see Hakeem moves, but I'd take that bet. He's going 1 so it doesn't matter.

Umm. I wouldn't touch Embiid with a ten foot pole. Back issues on a big is asking for disaster. Huuuuge risk! A franchise guy is someone who can come in here and change a face of a franchise for the next 20 years. You are willing to trade a proven nba player for a non NBA player with a bad back? Ummm no thanks.

Really? That's like a one step forward, 5 steps back type situation. I hear what you're saying but even the star needs a complementary group.

And Kevin Murphy. Didn't we trade him to GS for three players and two first round picks? Dude has V-A-L-U-E.

Lol
Nice one green

I never said "big", I said Center. Reading comprehension. Sheed isn't a centre for example.
Then play Embiid at the 4...

The point is that elite level talent, whether in the frontcourt or backcourt, is needed to win. If you can get a player who can both create offense well AND play top-level defense, it would be stupid to pass just because "we really only need a defensive big at the Center position to contend". The Jazz need talent. Top two-way talent is even better. It doesn't really matter what position that player plays, as championship teams have been built with elite talent at any and all positions.

I'd take those teams over the current collection of talent on the Jazz. You wouldn't?

have fun toiling in mediocrity.

If the jazz can get Embiid... (EDIT: I don't think there's a chance in hell that they can... so this is stupid)

Embiid indeed has the potential to be one of the top three centers in the game. It's hard to think anyone in the draft has that type of potential for their position. I think the Jazz have more motivation for Jabari than they do Embiid.

I'd never give up that much for one player, especially an untested one with injury issues. There are more center busts than anything else, and injury histories often play a huge part.

The league was also a lot different back then. I bet the Jazz could find better complimentary pieces in FA today than they could back then.

Agree with OP, Embiid is a once in a lifetime Center prospect. IF you have a chance to trade for him then you do. Nobody on this roster in Untradable. That being Said the Cavs know this as well and NOBODY is passing on Embiid.

Can anyone think of players that had injury concerns coming into the draft but turned out to be fine? This is a serious question, not rhetorical. One I just thought of is Dejuan Blair, the guy with no ACLs.

I'd say 2015 is too soon. I'd do that trade but swap the rights to 2017 or 18.

And to be honest, and I know this is kind of dumb, but I think I rather give up Kanter than the 2017 GS pick.

I wouldn't want to give them the GS pick unless their was some protection on it. I think it is overpaying but Embiid is one player I would overpay for to get. However, there is no way I feel the Jazz should take on Mayo's contract unless they are willing to take less picks.

IMO he is basically Roy Hibbert with borderline Ibaka athleticism. I know the Ibaka comp is a stretch, but he really is a great great athlete for someone his size. Lets trade everyone we've got and play him at 1-5.
