The Good:
1. Favors.
2. We're a lottery team.
3. Kanter was the right pick, and in a few years no one will disagree.
4. Burks and Evans are probably keepers.
5. There are only 66 games this season.
6. That I still love this basketball team, and always will.
Things that infuriate me:
1. Bell the Smell
2. We’re a lottery team.
3. No one wants to lead this team.
4. Nobody wants anything to do with the ball except for Jefferson. We can't pay these people to make a play (and believe me, they're trying to pay them). Same problem with last season. I have never seen a team so inept offensively. That may be hyperbole, but right now it's hot. At the end of last year I crawled out into my backyard where I stayed for 30 days and 30 nights without food or water (but plenty of bourbon and barbiturates). I had a moment of clarity. I constructed a shrine for Hayward, an accolade to his manhood. This wasn't because he deserves it. But because, for a few games at least, he wanted it. He wanted the ball. He wanted to move his white little legs. He wanted to put it in the basket. It was magical.
5. The coaches seem more confused than the players. This isn't because I hate Ty or have given up on him; they just don't seem to know what to do.
6. What can they do? It seems to be nothing. This isn't a winning roster, and it won't be for a few years. That's okay, but do they have to be so bad? So boring? Must it feel like I’m being stabbed? Someone pointed out in chat during the Lakers game that we had collectively wanted to bench every player on the team. We scream at Ty to take people out but really, who is he supposed to put in? Is there any magic combination to make this work? This is the same old song sung by every bad team in the league, "Why is he on the floor?" Answer: Because we're **** and who else is there? Is Burks going to play 48 minutes a game just so we don't have to see Raja's dumb face?
Actually, yes please.
7. I don't think Harris is going to grow up to be a point guard.
8 Our Perimeter defense.
9. Our defense.
10. But especially our perimeter defense.
11. That sinking truth that bubbles in the back of my head, the one that says the Jazz had one shot to win a championship, and that was with Stockton and Malone. Looking at the league now I don’t see it. Even when this roster is in its prime it won’t be as good as OKC--which frankly got lucky--and of course won’t be able to compete with the big markets.
More good news:
It’s much easier to ignore #11 when the Jazz are fun to watch. Come on, Jazz. Make me smile. Honestly, last season it was worth it to see Hayward come out of his shell, to see the Jeremy Evans' dunks. So far this year there isn’t any of that feeling. We play hard out the gate and then stop and pray for the game to end. We need a leader. Do you see one on the roster? Anywhere?
How about on the coaching staff?
