I was explaining a number of basketball related topics and FIBA came up. My wife asked me if Hamas has a team.. then she specifically asked if Gaza has a team.

I just said I don't know but I'm pretty sure we'd kick their asses badly if so. That wasn't good enough, she asked me to find out.. and said, "Ask Jazzfanz."

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I'm curious-- for the very-right consecutive American citizen (who is not Jewish), what is the main basis begin preserving the state of Israel? Is it strictly due to the desire to have a state like Israel in the Middle East for the sake of power-balancing?

I believe Israel has the right to exist in ME, though its very founding was on shaky legal grounds.
That said Eretz Israel is a fact since 1948 and while talking about international politics, we better avoid the language of those genocidal Moslem anatics, who would , if could, wipe the whole country off the map.

that said... (u know what would follow. Israel really has no respect for the rule of law and should be tamed. But in a proportional manner.)

Yes, that and also because Israel is the "apple of God's eye" and the Bible teaches us we should support her. (not engaging in any derail of the very important topic first broached by the OP, though)

So according to Christian theology, God wants the "apple of his eye" to be governed and/or inhabited strictly by Jewish people? Why wouldn't He want Christians to settle this apple of his eye

God told us Israel is holy and we must protect them. They can never do wrong. Everyone who disagrees is enemy. It's that simple why you cannot understand this?

One hypothesis is that a Jewish Israel plays heavily into many end-time narratives.
