Mystery wing player who wanted to come to Utah

I honestly don't care, because I think we did an amazing job this off-season. I like Mirotic but I feel the Jazz assembled an even better team than we would've, if we signed him. Media personalities are hilarious. If Tony Jones stated several times that a "pretty good wing is coming if we would've signed Mirotic." why not just tell us who it is? Mirotic agreed to a contract with Barcelona, so why doesn't Jones just state who it was? I'm guessing his sources are made up and he was saying that for publicity?? Also I can't find anything where Jones stated that we would get a quality wing with a Mirotic signing, where did you find that?

Tony is 100% credible. Does not make stuff up. There are side deals in information exchange and I’m certain he has a good reason for not revealing his source.

So I'm unclear on the sequence. Did Mirotic really not want to come to the Jazz so he took the overseas offer? Or the Jazz didn't want to pay as much as the overseas offer so they went to Plan B? Or did Jazz prefer Bogan so they ran from Mirotic.

The Jazz preferred Mirotic. He was their first choice. He was ready to sign when free agency opened but the combination of a big offer from a team in Spain + his family wanting to be closer to home caused him to take that deal instead. Then the Jazz turned their attention to signing Bogdanovic.

How could it be Ariza? Didnt he announce he signed with the Kings before the Mirotic news broke? And its not like Ariza is a ring chaser. He signed with the Suns last year. Hes a money chaser right now.

I bet it was Carroll.

I think taking care of his family was the biggest reason. Lowe talked a bit about this. Mirotic has small kids and he had been traded like 3 times in 4 years. He and his wife wanted to settle down. Can't blame him. The guy already made money for several lifetimes. And Barcelona is a really cool place.

Nvm, the Mirotic news happened pretty early, before FA began, so I camt rule anyone out due to timeline.

Agree on Ariza motivation, but not sure why the Jazz would go for a 3/4 like Carroll or Ariza over a 2/3 if they had secured Mirotic.

Carroll just makes the most sense.

Hes willing to be a bench guy. He knows Utah. Good shooter. If we to believe the Mirotic offer was less than 15 million, it was probably around the 12 million range which would free up 6 million a year which is what Carroll got from the Spurs.

Not sure but it seems the news on Mirotic happened before (June 29):

Ariza was reported on June 30.

Carroll is a good option too.

Just out of curiosity does anyone here prefer Mirotic + Ariza/Carroll over Bogdanovic + Green?

Gonna go ahead and say no on that. Mirotic saved our offseason.

(But I don’t think it was Ariza)
No doubt, I'm much higher on this team with Bogey than I would be with Mirotic.

I'd be interested to read a case for it though.

By the Jazz’s own admission (allegedly), this was their preferred outcome. Bojan wasn’t their top target because they weren’t confident they could get him.

Having your roster weakness be that you don’t have enough big bodies to defend the post/power wings is >>>>>> having a player that you could target on defense in the PnR and potentially ruin their spacing

Oh yeah I agree, I meant I'd be interested to hear a case that the Mirotic outcome would have been better, just to see what that would look like.

That makes sense about Utah being unsure of getting Bogey, I keep forgetting he was restricted.

He was unrestricted but prior to free agency it was believed that he was leaning towards staying with Indiana.

Lol he’s not a good shooter. His TS% is about 53% over the last four seasons.

Nope.
Not even close tbh. I love bojan and think green is underrated and will pleasantly surprise us

The Green thing is really interesting. I think his value is considerably better than the minimum contracts he keeps signing. Like, why is Demarre Carroll getting paid three times more than he is?

I don't geddit.
