NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

Dennis Lindsey was probably agonizing all day over an article for the GMs Tribune to announce that they've renounced Withey but that it was a really hard decision and he hadn't decided until just now.

A deep team is great - for the grind of the regular season.

It does you no good in the playoffs though. The postseason is built for stars. Rotations shrink and an injury to a key player can tank your championship dreams.

Jazz have one star right now - Rudy Gobert. Derek Favors and Ricky Rubio have performed at a near All Star level in the past, and Hood, Exum and Mitchell will all be given opportunities to show that they can be Stars as well. The key thing this year will be turning themselves into the best defense in the league and somebody (anybody) stepping up to fill the star void alongside Gobert. Jazz do that and they'll be in a great spot.
Agree. The depth could possibly help Utah get home court. I'm not giving up just yet. Hayward leaving was a big hit. And I know the West got tougher. But Utah played half the season without a starting PG. And had other key injuries. I think a repeat of last season's win total is plausible.

As for stars, Donovan is going to emerge. Even in a crowded backcourt, he'll get minutes. I'm hoping Dante's star will shine, too. I don't see the same fire in Hood, but perhaps he can average 16-18 pts.

I agree regarding the defense. That has to be the Jazz' calling card. Teams have to look at those dates on their calendars as games to just get beaten up, endure and hopefully get out with all limbs intact.

I still beleive in Hood but Ill admit a big red flag for me was when he hit like 7/8 3s against thr Lakers in the first half then had Kobe guard him in the 2nd and just totally laid down, didnt even look to get the ball as if he didnt want to shine over Kobe. If you really want Kobes respect you bury him when you get that hot.

As for Exum, Im excited to see him play with Rubio. He is a great cutter and was missed a lot last year with Hayward/Hill unable or unwilling to make the pass.

We're pretty full but of curiosity, because I thought he'd be a cheap and a really solid big, has anyone signed Alan Williams?

Locked did some questions on FB.

The most interesting thing he said was that he believes that the Sefolosha, Udoh and Jerebko deal all come with a team option for the second year. If true that could make next off season really interesting.

I've heard a couple people mention the team options on the second year of these deals but haven't seen any proof. Aren't these contracts usually public info?

If Lindsey did get team options for all these contracts that would be awesome. It would give us a ton of flexibility in the future.

Locke has mentioned it several times. The first time it sounded like just speculation, but I think the fact that he's now repeated it multiple times is pretty good confirmation. Given his sources in/connection to the organization, I'd be surprised if they let him keep saying it if it weren't correct. I'd give it about a 80% chance of being true.

Spotrac is a good site for contract info.
A lot of the mid-tier vet contracts are 1+1's - not just for the Jazz. Depending on what happens with Favs, Hood, Exum (and Burks), the development of Bradley, etc., some or all of the FA's might be let go next summer.

Interesting video about the process of free agency from the point of view of a player who just got annihilated by Joe Ingles...

Basically, you ask your wife where she wants to live so you can ignore her and go somewhere else.
