NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

I'd be nervous as hell to let Hood go to FA. If Utah has a chance to extend him for less than 20 per, then that would be great news. If he won't extend, I would rather try and trade him. He will get a stupid offer that we won't want to match.

If Hood is healthy and he shows improvements to his game, he might end up in the 20m range.

But he's never really done that. He hasn't improved much from a rookie and he has injury problems. Why would it suddenly change?

True, but given our severe lack of shooting, I'd be very surprised if Hood is traded for a downgrade. We'll cross the extension bridge once we get to it.

I assume a Hood trade would be combined with other assets to get a better player or one of equal value on a better contract.

So Detroit signed Langston Galloway. They are projected to be at like 128M once KCP gets his max. They will likely need to offload salary. Wonder if we could do a Harris trade using Diaw and favors... Favs would go to a third team.

Not sure we'd be able to handle that much salary unless we find a taker for Burks. Just spit balling here.

Nene turned down a 3 year 10 mill offer from Houston. Back on the market.

If Hood is willing to extend for 15-18 that has to be our top priority ASAP. Do not let that extend into the season trying to play hardball. Once the season starts his value will shoot up and they'll pull out of extension talks (or the number will go higher) and then he'll go in to free agency and get a massive offer and everyone will be reassured because "there's no way he's worth that much" and it will make his departure somehow, oddly, palatable to Jazz Nation.

Hood needs to be resigned. Sure, he was inconsistent in his first playoff series and it's a learning experience for him. Hopefully, he won't be in the 2nd time around and 15-18 sounds good.

As much as I was disgusted by Hood's performance in the playoffs, you gotta extend him for $15-18M/year (if that number is true). That's a no-brainer. If Hood averages anything like 15-16 ppg, 40% 3FG next season, other teams will easily offer more than that for him.
