NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

Damn, I think we could have taken on that DeMarre deal. He would have been useful this season and we could use the draft assets.
**** demarre

Welp, it cost the Raptors a first and 2nd round pick to dump Demarre Carroll. I dont think the Jazz can dump Burks.

I don't think the Jazz are rushing to dump Burks now anyway. Without Haywood and Hill his ability to score is a nice thing to have on the bench. I would assume that they keep him and try to get him healthy. If he gets healthy and plays well in any minutes he gets then he will have more value.

But Carroll is 30 compared to Burks being 25. And Burks costs 5 million less per year. So I don't think it would cost the Jazz the same price as it cost the Raptors if they did want to move him.

We should probably take a flyer on Spencer Hawes (what other choices do we have?) We could probably rehab his career a bit. He's 29 and I bet we could get more value from him paying him $3M than the Heat will get from Kelly Olynyk at $10+M.

And I was wondering what we could get for taking on Demarre. Seems like he could play some 4 (like he did in college), maybe Quin could work some magic, etc.

But one 1st and one 2nd from a team offloading $30 million in dead salary? And from whose picks will be late? 1st rounders are worth a lot, now more than ever, which is why I would've not included one for Crowder. Sounds like Lindsey agrees.

No way. Then you are paying Carroll/Burks a combined 27 million for the 18/19 season.

A late first round pick isnt worth it for a team like the Jazz who need to re-sign two key players in that off-season.

Pushback: that money won't impede the Jazz's ability to re-sign Hood and Exum, it will mean the Jazz will have to spend money above the salary floor to do it. I'm not sure the Jazz will do anything better with their cap space in the coming years on the market.

By the way, which two players are you referring?

Hood and Exum.

They would be about 6 million shy of the projected cap w/ Carroll before signing Hood/Exum. Without Carroll they can sign a UFA next year before they sign Hood/Exum as we will have about 20 million in cap-space. Money will be tight for most teams next year and that 20 million could have decent purchasing power.

You could be right. History tells me that the Jazz's spending power means dick. I hope you're right. I hope a bunch of magic happens, but I think we've got four fourty-something win seasons on the horizon and then Gobert's deal will be up.

Why do I keep coming back here? Gah.

Just enjoy the team man.

I think the foregone conclusion that we don't re-sign Faves sucks. I love that cat. A long, athletic two way player who seems loyal and like a good soldier. If he looks legitimately healthy right now (not just spin), I think we should make him an offer right now for 3/45 or 4/55. Assuming he's healthy, that's a very tradeable asset if nothing else. And I wouldn't mind see us saying **** this league and going some bully ball. The stats with Gobert and Favors on the court together are overwhelmingly positive as evidenced by Ron Mexico. **** this league. Throw Faves at the 4, Ingles at the 3, Hood at the 2, with Ricky running ****.

Maybe, but if somehow Alec Burks manages to have a healthy season where he he can be a decent contributor, the Jazz might be able to dump his salary next off-season to free up 30 million in cap-space, letting the Jazz be one of the few teams with near max cap-space.

Hell no lmao. I'm not giving Favors jack **** until he proves he can stay healthy and play with Rubio/Gobert on the court.
