If an offensive player makes contact with a defender and the referee feels that that player was trying to draw a foul without attempting to make a legitimate basketball play(ie actually trying to make the shot), then the offensive player may be assessed a foul and his team will lose possession of the ball.

I think this is more aimed at the intentional foul thing? Like when players try to time the intentional foul with a half-court shot.

yes which I'm kinda for but it seems like every new rule just increases the number of FTs.

Something definitely needed to be done. I'm not sure why intentional fouls during stoppage weren't already punishable by technical free throw plus the ball back. (Until a year or two ago I thought they were.)

A game typically lasts close to 2 1/2 hours and I admit that it drags sometimes. If they could somehow drop it to 2 hours it would be ideal imo.
