NBA to Kobe: "Oops!"

I don't know why, but this really bothers me. It was nothing to talk about and because Kobe made such a big deal out of it the league is kneeling down to kiss his backside. Next thing we know the NBA will adopt a 'Kobe Rule' similar to the 'Tom Brady' rule of the NFL.

With 4.9 seconds remaining in the Atlanta Hawks' 96-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on March 13, the Lakers' Kobe Bryant attempted a jump shot over the Hawks' Dahntay Jones. After review at the league office, video replay confirmed that referees missed a foul call on Jones as he challenged Bryant's shot and did not give him the opportunity to land cleanly back on the floor. Bryant should have been granted two free throws.

I wish Kobe and Crymelo would hook up for a romantic weekend of skiing and do a little murder-suicide thang.

....I saw much of that game and Kobe was pathetic! He kept forcing shot after shot after shot after shot! He was 11 for 33 or something worse than that! Then, when he had some great defense played on him for his final miss and sprained his ankle....he blames it on the defensive guy! He said there's an "unwritten rule" that your not suppose to be under your man when he comes down from a jump shot? Is that right? I never heard of such a rule! What's the rule when these guys fly through the air and dunk on someones head? Are they suppose to move away too, so the dunker who just posterized him.... won't land on their foot? You don't tape your ankles....then you get sprained ankles.....it's as simple as that! And by the way, you are responsible for the way you play, including how you come down, when you come down and on whom you come down!

I think it is b.s. when someone gets under your feet on a jump shot. Even if it is Kobe who it happened to. Anybody who has ever been able to shoot a jumpshot would know why. I think doing it should result in fines and an ejection. Thats not cool, trying to or accidentally hurting someone in a way that can effect their career. No, players don't like it at all. Anyone remember Vince Carter going after Bruce Bowen for doing that? Bruce Bowen was known for that. Thats a punk move I say.

Would Kobe have been able to shoot the FTs had a foul been called with how badly he sprained his ankle?

The NBA's come out before to say the refs blew a call. I agree with Hack's post as well.

...well, you and Hack....are hacks! The kid defending the jump shot did NOTHING wrong! Kobe was falling away and the kid was attempting to defend the shot! I've never heard such a foolish "rule" or infraction for trying your best to defend your man's jumpshot??? If I guy goes up in the air....it's his responsibility to protect himself when he comes down or lands! Landing on the side of a guys foot happens all the time and is part of the game. When 4 guys go up to grab a rebound....do you think they are concerned, care, or have any idea where they will land after grabbing the rebound? Plus, the bigger the foot the more likely hood of such an occurrence! Hey, these are tough boys, right? They've got all those jailhouse tats to prove it!!!

1. Calling me a hack doesn't hurt my feelings.

2. Going up for a rebound is a different situation. There are a lot of feet around there.

3. Getting underneath someone on a jumpshot is no different than taking someone out mid air on a drive to the basket. It says, hey I can't stop you so I am willing to hurt you to stop you.

4. I thought you were against gangsta punk moves in the NBA?? Don't you want a cleaner more well played game?

5. Dahntay Jones knew exactly what he was doing. Thats what this guy does. He tries to bully people. You could clearly see him push up into Kobe while he is in the air and get underneath him. Guys who do this, know it can effect the shot.

6. Anybody who has any game and actually plays basketball knows all about this unspoken rule. You don't get under someone's feet on a jumpshot. Thats something that will get your *** beat on the playground.

7. Deron Williams hurt his ankle from this exact same injury back in 2008. He landed on Derrick Rose's foot in a preaseason game, on a jumper from the three point line. That was his first major ankle injury in the NBA and he has never been the same since. Deron was a lights out shooter before that, but after, his FG% steadily declined year after year. Now Deron is dealing with all sorts of ankle problems. Just go read the stories. It effects him because its harder to focus on your shot. Its always in the back of your mind that its going to happen again. I know because its happened to me too.

You still think its cool? That ankle injury of his had an effect on the whole Jazz organization, for years after. We would have had a better Deron

....all I can say from experience is this: you don't want a badly sprained ankle when you play basketball then TAPE YOUR ANKLES!!!! Both of them! I played for years and had multiple sprains until I began to TAPE MY ANKLES!!! Then....guess what? NO MORE SPRAINED ANKLES!!!!
