Nets think they can sign Deron in 2012

Projecting future salary-cap space is difficult without knowing what the new collective bargaining agreement will look like, but the Nets privately believe that they would still have the ability after acquiring Anthony to go after New Orleans' Chris Paul, who is eligible to become a free agent in 2012. Convincing Anthony that they'll have the requisite cap space to chase Paul or Utah's Deron Williams (another 2012 free agent) to join him and center Brook Lopez is a key element of Prokhorov's strategy, sources say, although the Knicks and other teams continue to convey skepticism to Anthony's representatives that the Nets would really have enough cap space to do so.

Deron will never make it in a big market - he's wrapped too tight. He won't have the entire local media up his *** like he does in Utah. In NYC, you have a few bad games and you have to face 40 reporters outside your locker asking why you suck soo much

Agreed.

He said Nets, not the Knicks. Nobody gives a **** about the Nets.

Lopez-Melo-Deron would be a terrible big 3. I mean at least make a cool big 3. Should be like Healthy Broy-Deron-Howard.

Even that wouldn't make up for playing in New Jersey.

Just like Clippers deal with the LA media?

The Clippers have sucked for over 20 years. The Nets are building something potentially with a new hotshot owner, cap space, and some decent pieces. With the unveiling of a new arena in a bigger city, with a far bigger media, if Deron and/or other players come, you can bet the media will swarm. Much more than in SLC anyway. Which was candrew's point.

Even still nobody will give a **** about the Nets. Knicks rule that city.

No matter what denial we may be in, Deron leaving us in 2012 is a very real possibility. If we don't do something to step outside the realm of "solid playoff team" and into the rarified air of "championship contender" he will leave looking for the ring and I don't blame him.

There is a little known fact that this article is talking about just this event. 5,125 years ago the Mayans knew Deron would be leaving us, and they built their vaunted calendar to count down to that year. Let's hope we can stop this prophecy from coming true by acquiring a true shot-blocking center and an elite wing. The future of the Jazz...nay the entire civilized world hinges upon our trades over the next 2 years.

I like to think that Deron would know enough about winning and playing a fun brand of basketball to avoid going to a team in the East AND a team featuring Crymelo.

No one can really blame him either, the Jazz just aren't that close. We start a 6'10" center and 6'7" PF, who get destroyed by even scrub teams with big lineups (like today). Our best swingman will need to be let go for salary reasons in a month. Our shooting guard is old and possibly the worse starter in the league at the position.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

I'd be tired of playing 3 on 5 every year too.
I'd love to be in a bigger market. Receive more endorsements, more attention, and perhaps even votes for the All-Star game. The NBA is a business and Utah is a tiny market compared to most of the NBA.

Anyone who knows anything about Deron and thinks he will leave us for NJ is stupid.

There are very few teams Deron would leave us to play for where he would feel like more of a "championship contender", and they don't have the money to pay him now and won't in 2012, either.

I'm not gonna say I'd put money on it, but I doubt Deron is going anywhere. You can see the bonds he has with some of our players, and how pissed he was when some of them were traded away. Players like Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony aren't like that.

Obviously only Deron knows what he is going to do in 2012, I think he knows the pros and cons of leaving, he's not stupid after all.

The Jazz have to make an effort to get better, if we're not doing that, then I wouldn't see a reason why he wouldn't leave. I don't think he will, he won't get to call the shots like he would here and I'm not sure that would be the most ideal situation for him.

If I were Deron, I would ask the Jazz front office to get better return on investment on AK and Okur's salary slots. Al Jeff, Millsap and CJ are all on reasonable deals. Now the Jazz need another max player who truly is a max player. That makes them contenders. The rest are bits and pieces they can pick up.
