New Draft Express Mock - Exum to #6

I am trying to decide if the Jazz not bringing Exum in means they have already decided against him or not? Maybe they have had extensive talks with him in Australia? Who knows. Maybe they just don't like him at all for some reason, or maybe they desperately want him and think he is going to be Kobe?

The agents for Wiggins, Parker, Embiid and Exum have said that they will only be working out for the teams with the top 4 picks.

Burke didn't come in because he was not projected to fall to where the jazz had their pick. Burke was at #6 in a few final mock drafts. I wouldn't have expected him to work out for a team that had the #14 pick. Exum is a different story, though. A team in the 5-7 range could decide to trade up a few spots. That way, if Orlando doesn't pick him, he has others interested. Then again, if his agent thinks there's a chance he won't have great workouts, he limits them. If Exum slips past Orlando, teams that didn't get a chance to see him privately may snap him up as a "steal."

So why didn't Burke work out for the Jazz then? He and his agent knew that PG was a major priority for the Jazz.

The idea that we know more about Exum than any other team is a complete guess. Things like this get taken as fact on this board and then get regurgitated ad nauseum.

Exum has made it known, since he declared, that he had a short list of teams he would work out for. The Jazz are not on that list, apparently.

So if Exum is there at 5, do you trade the pick? Maybe to Boston for 6th and 17th? or Philly's 10th pick , a handful of 2nd picks, with Thad Young? Or to Chicago for there 2 picks plus Butler?

Pretty sure if Exum is there at 5, the Jazz will probably take him. They would have to be pretty sold on Vonleh to pick him over Exum.

If Exum is there at 5, you pick him. At least if he's perceived by most/all teams to be a value there, because then you have a tradeable asset. What if Philly gets Parker at 3 for the same reason but like Exum more and just want to maximize their draft position (at which point, maybe Exum and one of Favors, Kanter, Burks, or whatever gets you Parker)? Or maybe Exum really is just that legit?

You draft Exum.

This just makes too much sense.

The only way Jazz should draft Exum is if some sucker GM behind us in draft would offer something great for him. Otherwise he is useless for our team. Not a pick an roll player, no outside shot, to skinny, he won't be able to produce at starter level for another 2-3 years at least if ever. Plus he plays same position as Burke, why waste 5th pick on bench player at best.
If Exum is available you pass on him with peace of mind and take Gordon. Every team needs Pippen/Marion/AK type player.

Every team needs Pippen/Marion/AK type player.
Players like that are nice at the right price. But, no, not really. They are a luxury... for the right price.

To add, Pippen wasn't a pure-glue guy, he is one of the most underrated players in league history. To add to that, AK was at his best being a sub-par #1 and has had a tough time transitioning to the role of a role-player/glue guy. And this all makes a HUGE assumption that Aaron Gordon will ever be as good as the players you just mentioned, which is a leap.

Nah, draft Gordon.

Also, mocks don't really matter until the days right before the draft. They are still fun though.

Remember how people freaked out in excitement over Dennis Schroder? I'm not comparing the two players, but it reminds me of the situation Exum is in.

Basically any team with a respectable point guard he won't play for right? I haven't seen or heard the list but I know he likes Orlando and LA which both need PGs.

Because jumping from #14 to the #5/6 was very unlikely to happen. Burke slid and the Jazz were able to then jump just 5 spots to take him.

Schroder sort of came out of nowhere. People have known about Exum for quite sometime.

Sixers/Clippers season ticket holder here.

The Bucks owners have publicly said during fan season ticket holder events that they have Jabari/Embiid as their top 2 prospects. Several reports indicate that their GM has a boner for Exum too, so apparently Wiggins is #4 on their board.

Smart had two workouts with the Magic (only prospect to have that) and was their coveted player last year.

Hopefully that helps inform you guys!

Sidenote: As a Sixers fan, if Wiggins is gone at #3, I'd be receptive to a 3 for 5 swap provided that you include Kanter, Burks, and a future first and provided Exum falls to 5.

Well if I were a Philly fan I would love it too but I am a Jazz fan and that is way too much.

They freaked out in excitement because Schroder was supposed to declare for the 14' draft instead of the 13' draft. A new prospect who was projected to go in the first round of next years draft declaring for the current one is pretty exciting.

You take the best player available unless you have two guys who are equal than you look at team need.

"@chadfordinsider: Exum has only scheduled MIL, PHI & ORL. Unlikely to workout below 4 I’m told"
