New IOS 11

Have any of you upgraded? I guess the new IOS has some cool features. I'm still exploring but I've noticed a lot of bugs. Namely:

A. The landscape keyboard is shot all to hell. It's really small and the edges leave a bunch of unused space. I don't know if that's a glitch in the system or if it's because I have an Iphone 6. Perhaps the newer Iphones don't have issues with their landscape keyboards?

B. Accessing my photo library is hit or miss. Sometimes I can access my pics and other times I can't. You can see the thumbnails but can't use them.

C. My podcasts are all out of order and overall much more difficult to navigate.

D. The performance is much slower yet battery life has been slashed. I'd say overall I've seen a 50 percent reduction in battery life.

Anyway, if you've upgraded I'm wondering if you've experienced similar issues? If you haven't upgraded, I warn you, DON'T. At least don't upgrade until Apple fixes these glitches.

So far I hate it. Glad I only have to deal with it on my work phone.

Admittedly I haven't tried out all of the new features. Mostly because the phone is so frustrating to try and work with right now. It's so laggy and uses up so much battery. But it looks like the upgrade is largely cosmetic. I don't know why they think the status screen that you swipe through to usually just turn on the flashlight needed to be changed. And I don't know why the fonts and icon designs needed to be changed slightly. The nitty gritty of just taking pictures, making phone calls, sending texts, and using podcasts sucks. I don't use my phone other than to take pics, text, and listen to podcasts. So whatever "extra" the IOS gave me is mostly wasted. I've read a lot of complaints online already.

My main beef is with the damn landscape keyboard. I can't dictate a text with one hand to save my life. I have too fat of fingers to use one handed. I could text pretty fast in landscape mode. Now typing a simple text takes me ages. I wish I could downgrade. I tried tonight. It didn't work out. Any idea if a new version will be coming out soon? Is the landscape keyboard just dead? Or do I need to get a new phone? I'm due for an upgrade. But if the new iphones don't support landscape keyboards then I might have to look elsewhere. Do Samsung phones still explode?

What sort of iPhone do you have?

I'm a developer myself and we get a lot of complaints like this every time we change our UI. I think companies put their product under such a microscope that they tend to feel the need to change a lot of stuff that ordinary users don't even notice or have a problem with. Of course there are always bugs too, which suck.

Oh, and yes, I have had problems since updating to iOS 11. Haven't tried the landscape keyboard, but general performance and battery seem worse (my music player is acting funky too). Mind you I also have a giant crack in my screen as well.

6 plus

Some of the Icon designs look amateur hour. I have also had slower performance (cue the jokes). I've also noticed that my phone sometimes takes significantly longer to rotate videos when I rotate my phone.

Didn't peg you for an ifonian.

Huh.

If you have made an OTA update, try this:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263

This walks you through updating iOS 11.0.2 on recovery mode without having to delete anyhing. So you can fix the errors caused by less trustworthy connection of Wi-Fi that is open for unwanted resonances while setting up a 2.59 GB file.

There are also many handy features.

I have a 6+ as well. My phone seems to lag now. Especially when first opening an app. I’ve also noticed my battery life is shot to hell. I thought my battery was going bad, but maybe it’s this new update. It might be a coincidence, but since updating, my yahoo mail doesn’t seem to be working right either.

I have seen some of this too. Also I noted that touch accuracy seems to have dropped. The keyboard doesn't respond the way it did before and even entering my lock code it didn't pick up some of the numbers as I tapped them. Irritating. I can't wait until I can upgrade my work phone to a samsung.

6+ too. I'm still on 10.3 and ever since updating to that my battery has been crap and my phone started lagging as well. I also had trouble for a long time switching things on and off. It would say it was switched but it wasn't really changed, so I'd have to go back in and redo what I just did. Plenty other problems like programs shutting down at random and the screenshot feature not working. I think I'm finally going to dump Ms. Apple.
