New Rotation Thoughts

I'll be surprised if Burks can even hold down a regular rotation job. Doubly surprised if we don't pick up a one year rental at the wing. Not a knock on Burks, but most guys his age aren't ready. It will be interesting to see how the frontcourt minutes get divided. Al and Sap will play the lion's share, but they're going to want to get Kanter's development going.

Kobe was not ready either, but did the Lakers play him and let him develop and learn his first year? I will answer my own question. YES Did Kobe hurt them with his play? Yes, but it speeded up his development greatly. Give the young ones playing time and see who the keeper are moving forward.

Do you really think we are ready to make the play-offs next year? Play the young core of this team a lot. The worse that can happen is were in the lottery again. Give them experience and add 2 lottery picks in next years draft, then were loaded to make a run at that ever elusive championship in a few years.

Remembering Kanter and Burks are ROOKIES, something like this makes sense to me:
Harris 30, Watson 18
Hayward 22, Bell 16, Burks 10
CJ 22, Millsap 8, Evans 12, Hayward 6
Favors 24, Millsap 18, Evans 6
Jefferson 30, Kanter 10, Okur 8

Frontcourt: My belief is Favors will average about 25. Hopefully his play pushes that number to 30. He's too raw offensively to leave on the court if you're trying to win. I wouldn't be surprised if Okur limits Kanter's minutes to start the season. KOC's goal is definitely to trade Okur but he has to play well to make it work.

Wings: Definitely think the Jazz will explore Sap at the 3. Definitely think it won't work. Miles and Hayward will get the big minutes. Millsap will spot. They'll (sadly) lean heavily on Raja. They hope Burks can spot, but my guess is a vet is brought in who ices out Burks unless Burks really, really is ready.

I disagree on Favors. While raw offensively you are pairing him with Jefferson who is a 20 PPG scorer. On defense he is superior to both Millsap and Jefferson already. He needs to learn to stay out of foul trouble but I believe that will be worked on this season.

Honestly I don't think the Jazz should necessarily be trying to win right now. Develop their players and work on making this young conglomeration of talent into a team with chemistry. Part of this is I see no room for Millsap and a desperate need for a starting SF. I want them to use Millsap to acquire a SF. Millsap starting at SF is a disaster waiting to happen.

This crap about not playing these young guys because there young is moronic.

We aren't contending and have no chance at contending. So why make them sit the bench? Do you guys really think they are somehow going to develop by never playing consistent minutes?

This old Jazz mindset is horrible. Do you guys realize that Jerry Sloan NEVER developed prospects because of this? We never took a young player without experience and developed him in practice.

The only time young guys were effective were when they were NBA ready. No teenager was developed properly by Sloan. And its all because they never got playing time.

Burks should play 25 minutes next year. Favors should play over 30 minutes next year. Kanter should play 25 minutes next year. Hayward should play 30 minutes next year. GIVE THEM EXPERIENCE! Nobody develops in practice. They refine there game in practice. But they don't develop there.

Trade the guys that are in the way of those 4 young core players.

Millsap needs to go. Bell needs to go.

LOL; calm down, TT; I forgot SLOAN's not here any more... Seriously, minutes for the rooks should increase fairly quickly as they better digest the Jazz system. I'm talking day 1 minutes in my earlier post. At least I'm getting them minutes right away, which they likely wouldn't have gotten from Sloan. Definitely agree they need GAME experience to get better, and I think Ty with give them enough minutes in games to grow as the season progresses.

Just what I have been thinking too. The Jazz say they want to contend for a playoff spot but that is not oging to help this team at all. The Jazz Nation is smart enough to know that it might take a losing season to get some great playing time for the young players but the young core that they have aquired is very very strong right now. It is a little funny to me that the Jazz have stong young players at every position except PG.

The only change I would make to youe post is to trade Jefferson and his atrocious contract. He is good but he is slow and not defensive minded at all. The Jazz were one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA and I point directly to Jefferson for that. Kanter has all the same offensive weapons (need to be a little refinded) with the addition of a 20 ft jumper that Jefferson doesn't have. Save money and develop young talent. Time to trade Jefferson and Miles.

Big Al + Millsap for Dwight Howard.

If Jefferson comes into camp in much, much better shape like the rumors suggest (two months working out in CA), and he has a career year, AND the Howard/Orlando situation becomes even more contentious, do you think there's any way we could work a trade (with Howard being extended in the deal) of Jefferson and Millsap and maybe one or two future 1sts, for him? I think it's going to be difficult to find more than that for him, no?

Note: I'm pretty sure your post was entirely sarcastic and realize the notion of Howard accepting an extension to play in Utah sounds insane but...

Just to go along with your thoughts...

If at some point Howard tells Orlando he isn't resigning Orlando will want to get something back. I think we are one of only a few teams that could come up with a good enough package to get Howard, but I only do this if Howard agrees to a new deal to keep him in Utah.

Nonsense. who were those great talented teenagers whom we failed to develop? what did they do elsewhere?

Only if we insanely good when we trade for him. Howard in Utah would be funny. I think we would have to give up our Golden State 2012 pick too.

Sloan never played Miles in the beginning or Fesenko or Koufos. But I am sure you all will say they sucked. Maybe they would of but we never found out because they sat the bench Favors should of been playing 25 minutes an night. Instead he barely played.

Dwight Howard was more raw coming into the league and had more foul problems than Favors did. We just expect our prospects to not make mistakes. When that is how they learn. Sloan never played any of those guys above consistent minutes. They screwed up and we wouldn't see them for 10 games.

Look at all of those guys who came into the league early that became successful. All of them played a lot in there first couple of years. Made a lot of bad decisions but improved upon them. We complain they come out of college too early because they needed more experience. So we draft them and make them sit the bench when experience is what we needed them to have in the first place? Makes no sense.

When I say Sloan ruined the prospects. He ruined there development. Key word ruined. So they never developed in time. Its a waste of a draft pick no matter where they are drafted if you are not going to play a prospect.

You are having the same thoughts that I am. Just because we play the young guys 20 or so minutes anight doesn't mean that the Jazz don't care. I want the new young guys to get all of the time that they can. I am willing to go through the losses. It is time we take a step back and develop young players instead of "ruining" them.

I expect at least one trade. Maybe two. We need a veteran SF, someone crafty who can be a mentor to Hay and Burks. I like the idea of Granger more and more.
