What's new

New Year 2025

Knock on wood, 2024 has been pretty amazing except too much sporadic back pain and entering the year with getting sick for the third time in two months, the first of which I nearly died in Vietnam, then got sick again, and then got covid. Thought I'd never get healthy. My wife and daughter have had a bug for about five days now and I've been with them almost 24/7 and yet to succumb. Thought for sure I was getting sick two weeks ago and my wife gave me zinc/vitamin C tablets and they seem to have miraculously worked, which was a first. Last winter was also my first skiing on a new total-knee-replacement which was not great and had me nervous, but it's been better this season. I've big-time learned over the last 10 years not to take my health or those around me's health for granted and to seize the day when feeling good and uninjured.

Now for the bragging... 2024 was a doozy. Just got back from a powder and sun filled 3-week ski trip to Europe, one week alone and two weeks with my wife and daughter(19), son couldn't make it. It was my daughter's first time skiing in the Alps and we slayed it. My long-time friend from high school and college and his family of 6 were there too for a week so we all skied Zermatt together which was awesome. It was their first time in Europe and they had great weather and snow. Overall I had about 50 days on the dirtbike, 70 days skiing and 20 days snowbiking in 2024. Only a few minor injuries and a ton of insane powder and dirt days. Three big Europe trips, one meeting up with my dad in his home village, one with the wife and the recent with wife and daughter. All total Germany, Ireland, Italy, France, Switzerland and for the first time Sicily which was super cool. Also did a two-week trip to Chile and Brazil with my daughter. Spent two weeks with dudes in the desert in October and rode moto 12 straight days which was amazing. Did my first snowbike ride this winter yesterday with the crew so sending out 2024 with a bang.

Oh and Happy New Year to you dudes. Hard to believe it's 2025. I remember being young in around 1985 and thinking of New Years 2000 and how far off it seemed and that I'd be 30-years-old. Blink and it's 2025 and it's a slippery slope to 60. Wild.

So what you’re saying is you’re old AF, deteriorating at a rate of knots on the downward spiral into oblivion ???

It was a very up and down year for me but ended way up, so I'm hoping this momentum carries through 2025 and beyond.

Happy new year all! I wish all of you a bright and fulfilling year ahead!

Sounds like we're the same age. I remember thinking the same thing, and I turned 30 in 2000. Crazy how fast it goes.

Happy new year everyone! Here's to hoping president Musk doesn't **** everything up for everyone.

Ended way up? What, a bj from the wife? Rich relative die?

Honestly 2024 has been the worst year of my life, it can **** right off. This year really cant be any worse, unless I die which I wouldn't mind too much.

Wishing everyone a great year.
I'm sorry 24 was not great for you. Was it even worse than 2020? COVID really messed with me. My outlet is basketball. I play 4-5 times a week and watch basketball. That all went away. Had a family member have a severe reaction to a vaccine that still has caused her issues. It was a tough year.

2024 was great for me. Finally found my forever home, which will soon have a mini full court in it. Work was great, but had a slow time summer season for the first time in 7 years, so really got to enjoy the warm weather, especially with lighter than usual forest fire activity by me. On top of that the stock market performed amazing when all the "experts" said we'd have a big recession.

Also had a frivilous lawsuit hanging over my former employer's head (and I was dragged into it) for four years. I won't get into details, but it truly was an abuse of the legal process by the other party. After a long process, arbitrator decided everything in our favor earlier this year.

I'd be ecstatic if 25 is as good as 24 was for me. Fingers crossed, but I can see a lot of potential things that may make this year tough for many.

Went outside last night to see the fireworks at midnight. Crazy amount of smoke in the street, a building down the street was on fire. Read today that at one point Austin had 15 active fires. People are really dumb with fireworks.

A guy I work with is out of Austin and is the president of a large pyro club. They do organized events, though.

Great start to the year with another USA mass murder.
The craziest part about that was the FBI stating it wasn't a terrorist attack. It was a Muslim guy flying an ISIS flag with a bomb in the truck. The local police said it was a terrorist attack, then the FBI swept in making a statement they were taking control of the investigation and that it was not a terrorist attack, no terrorism happened in New Orleans, nope, don't believe the lying police or your own eyes because this wasn't terrorism. Then only after the entire world said "yeah, sure, whatever you say FBI" did the FBI back down to admit that maybe it was a terrorist attack. Trump really needs to clean house at the FBI.

Fireworks are stupid. It's stupid that anyone even does them.
