News, rumors and buzz around the draft and free agency

The Rockets are literally going to screw themselves if Butler doesn't come to town.

Wonder if it's Boston since they've been linked to him for a while. Obviously he can't replicate what Horford brought, but he'd be a nice pick and roll partner with Kemba.

Boston can't absorb Capella if they sign Kemba.

I could see Sacramento taking Capella and Gordon if they get the chance. They easily have the money and could use both players.

That would make sense. The Lakers initiated an arms race the likes of which help start the first world war. Hoo boy.

Houston wouldn't be looking for cap, but more return to entice a S&T out of Philly. That's the only way they are getting Butler. At least I think?

If Philly loses Harris and Redick in free agency AND Butler refuses to return, it's possible they work something out via sign and trade. If they keep Harris and Redick, I don't know how it works financially.

Some of Tony's Q&A

Q: How serious is Joe’s finger issue that was reported this week?
A: Not serious. He's fine. He's still going to play in the World Cup

Could Willie Reed take Bradley's spot on the roster even if the Jazz keep Favors?
Bradley is guaranteed for next year, and Reed isn't

From a Derrick Favors perspective and what HE wants, what would be an ideal spot for him if Utah doesn’t retain him?
Derrick told me he wants to go to a contender if he has to move on

How high is Bojan Bogdanovic on the target list? And what do you think his price would be?
High. Very high. However, the NBA feels he's Indy's to lose. The feeling is he's going to command 14-18 million a year....He'd be a tremendous fit in Utah, though

Do you think Trevor Ariza and Reggie bullock could have interest here?
I think the Jazz would have interest in them. Not sure if the feeling is mutual or not

Tony, what shooters can the jazz add this off season to help take them to the next level. Any players in free agency you think can help us with shooting to be specific.
I know the Jazz are interested in Bogdanovic, Mirotic, Thad Young.....won't speculate beyond what I know

If the Jazz decide to move away from Favors, are they more likely to waive him and go after 2 or 3 cheaper FAs, waive him and go after a similarly priced FA, or trade him for a cheaper player (e.g. Marcus Smart) or picks and sign a cheaper FA or two?
They are more likely to waive him and pursue multiple pieces

With so many teams trying to go "all-in" on this season do you see value in maintaining some flexibility for next season?
That's what the Jazz are trying to figure out, and have about a week to answer for themselves

Who are you most excited to see in jazz summer league? (From the jazz roster)
Willie Reed

Would the Jazz pass on Favors if they could get Bojan?
I believe he's the one guy on the market they can get for 17 that would make them do that

I know that Utah will never get the draw from players that LA, New York, Chicago and other big name cities get, but do you think the vibe around the league and what players think about Utah has changed over the last few years?
It's absolutely changed....guys are interested in coming to Utah for the first time that I remember

Thanks for sharing. Biggest takeaways:

- we would drop Favors for Bogdonavic.

- we might drop Favors if we got a couple guys like Mirotic

- it's doubtful we trade Favors

Who of the three late 2nd round picks are most likely to make the 15 man roster?
They all have a fighting chance to make the roster....Their fate is largely out of their hands. It's going to depend on what happens to the roster around them in free agency

If the Jazz waive Favors and trade Ingles for picks, do they have enough $ to sign Tobias Harris? And is he still interested?
That's not going to happen

Has there been any extension talks for Royce? I feel like we got to lock him up before the season starts.
Nothing on that, yet....but stay tuned

Do you expect the jazz to make the call to Bojan On Sunday?
I do....see where his head is at, if nothing else

Do you see DeMarre Carroll, Dewayne Demon or Wayne Ellington as potential fits?
Dedmon, depending on what happens at the front end of free agency....don't discount Garrett Temple...I always thought he would be a fit with Quin Snyder

Any interest in Wayne Ellington? Think he could be available for the mini-MLE?
We'll see....He's not top priority

Do you see ingles or bojan able to play the 4 if favors left?
I think the Jazz would try and get another four

So was the jazz really the front runner for Tobias? Did the jazz overcome Brooklyn?
Brooklyn would be the frontrunner all things equal....Brooklyn didn't want Tobias as priority

Do you think with Mike Conley now that elite role players might have more interest in coming to Utah now?
Yes. We saw that with Portis

How would Bojan’s defense fit on the Jazz?
Bojan is very unlikely to come to Utah. He's Indy's to lose

Any truth to the reports that the Jazz wanted to sign Stanton Kidd last year but couldn't get him out of his Darassufaka contract? With him coming back for summer league and his contract over, do you think he gets signed this year?
A lot of truth. They really liked Stanton

Portis is interested in the jazz but are the jazz at all interested in Portis?
The Jazz are definitely interested. But he's a restricted free agent, which complicates things

Do you think Alex Jensen will be a Head Coach in the NBA one day?
I do. Sooner, rather than later

Are the jazz still major players for Tobias Harris?
No. That ship has sailed

We'll have to see if the proof is in the pudding.

Exactly. What is the definition of overpaid? I don't think $22 million of a $109 million cap for a proven NBA starter still in his prime is a bad contract.

"The Orlando Magic are preparing a four-year offer believed to be in excess of $90 million to their All-Star center Nikola Vucevic in hopes of completing a deal shortly after Sunday's opening bell in free agency, league sources say"

So... Barnes = Vucevic?
