NFL Discussion Thread - 2013

Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, Dallas Clark? IMO he's never had this good of a defense to keep the pressure off him and forcing him to win in shootouts and he's never had this good of a offensive line.
Like I said they have to be the AFC favorites but they still have played one of the easiest schedules so far and it only gets marginally tougher from here, so it has setup perfectly for him to have a career year this season.

I'd take Thomas, Welker, Decker and Thomas. Aside from Welker that is a extremely big group of receivers. Keep in mind the D will get better. Denver has yet to show their best.

I bet Colts fans would disagree with you, but I also know most Bronco fans would likely agree with you. As a fan of neither when all is said and done you could be right, however as history stands now Welker is the only one that could be mentioned with those players, now Thomas could turn into that he has all the tools and better size but he has to prove it before I would give him the nod.
 
Peyton went down and a team that was in the playoffs the year before struggled to win two games. This Broncos team is better than any team he had on the Colts.

He's absolutely had receivers before in Indy like he's had now. Both Wayne and Marvin Harrison are likely hall of famers (well they should be anyway though it's hard to get in the hall as a WR for some reason), and he also had Stokley (when he was good, or at least decent) and Dallas Clark.

In 2005 the Colts looked like the team to beat, but sigh...I hate thinking about that year. Regardless the one thing I'll agree with is your general point that this Denver team feels more complete than the Colts team did, but as a guy who saw Manning play for many years I must admit I was nervous every post season. However, it's not like every time he went was a flop so I would hardly say that he's destined to lose or anything. Right now the Broncos look like the best team in football by far.

Both Harrison and Wayne in their prime are far superior to any of those two above. It's not even that close. And it's not even a knock on the Bronco group really. They are/were that good.

Thomas may have potential of being elite, but he's not close to there yet.

I agree with the argument that playing with Manning helps WRs become great, but that works both ways in this instance.

Never really had Stokely and Dallas Clark together though. Clark did not emerge until after Stokely left. Wide receiver's could be a wash (though I'd take Denver's current receiver's as I think Welker is better than any of the colts receiver's and Thomas and Decker compliment him real good). But over all as a team the Colts were never this good on Special teams and especially defense. Also those Colts teams were going up against another super team in NE. This year I'm not sure there is a team out there like that besides the Broncos.

Don't get me wrong this is the NFL and they could lose, and probably will. But I still think this Denver team has more talent than any Colts team Peyton ever had.

Maybe. Though Welker is the best of any listed for either team. And the 4 from Denver are probably equal to or better than any 4 from Indy during any single season.
 
Welker doesn't touch Marvin Harrison in his prime. he's never put up better numbers than Wayne either.

Maybe you should look up their stats before saying this. Best year Wayne 104 catches for 1510 Yards. Best year Welker 122 catches 1510 yards.

We are not talking 1 on 1. We are talking as a group

Demaryius Thomas is 6-3 & 230 lbs.
Julius Thomas is 6-5 & 250 lbs.
Eric Decker is 6-3 & 214 lbs.

Not to mention Wes Welker. That is a big, strong athletic group of receivers. I'd take this team for various reasons against Peytons Colts. Those recievers are one of them. They create more mismatches.

Since you posted the numbers, why did you leave out perhaps the most important stat...touchdowns? Wayne had 10 of them that year, and Welker had 9. But 2011 was a banner year for Welker in his career. That's his career high for TD receptions (which he will most likely break this year). Wayne has 3 seasons with 10+ TD catches. And he has a better yard per reception average, because Wayne can actually get open downfield better than Welker, who is the king of 2-4 yard screen pass.

Size isn't everything for a WR. In fact most of the elite WRs in NFL history weren't all that big. Route running is a much better skill to have, and is the primary reason both Wayne and Harrison are top 10 guys in the three major receiving categories in NFL history.

As dominant as the Broncos are now, they would be much more scary if Thomas and Decker were replaced with Harrison and Wayne (in their primes, like the 2005 version of them).

True but when they that talented, as the Denver ones are, it makes them hard to bring down. Yards after catch
 
Right now Denver looks unstoppable, but not even in the same stratosphere as the Patriots team that finished the regular season undefeated. That team was other worldly, and still didn't win a championship.

LMAO at how over confident Broncos fans are in this thread. Super Bowls are freaking hard to win, and you definitely don't win them in September.

I was joking. Mostly. But right now there really is only 2-3 teams that look championship caliber. That could change later in the season, or the teams still looking like championship caliber could change. Denver has a pretty tough 3-4 week period later this year they could look different after that stretch.
