What's new

NFL Draft

Yeah, it was a good pick up, but they gave up way too much to get someone who is going to be your #2 receiver and has possible injury issues. They should of beefed up their pass defense to defend against Freeman and Brees (and possibly Cam Newton if he ever amounts to anything). It would have been better if they could have gotten AJ Green.
None of the hoopla is going to matter when Rogers picks the Falcons **** the **** apart, especially with a healthy team.

Kolb or Ponder?

I assume the Eagles would have taken the 12th pick for Kolb

I would take Kolb over Ponder without a second thought. Kolb has proven he can play in the NFL and put together a string of solid games. I question whether Ponder could put together a string of solid games at the college level.

Broncos laid a second round egg... with Bowers and Marvin Austin on the board when you need to sure up your defensive line, they took a safety and a guard.

Getting Bowers there, makes the Von Miller pick look genius.

Bowers to Tampa! Our Dline is nasty again!

Quick, now someone call a team of the best doctors in nation...

Miami needs a QB to compete with Henne but they didn't have a 2nd round pick. So they give up some picks in order to move back into the 2nd round and with Mallet and Stanzi still on the board and they take........a freakin' RB.

The most interesting thing about the NFL draft is seeing who Mr. Irrelevant is going to be. I am hoping for Jimmer!

Let's not lump all these qb's all together. Vince Young had some very solid moments. He simply had poor/mediocre leadership skills and didn't quite step up like a man and lead nor take his passing game to the next level. For me that comes down to lack pf passion and therefore drive to work his *** off and demand excellence from himself. DeMarcus Russell on the other hand should never have been taken #1 overall. He had a great bowl game vs. a crappy Notre Dame defense, a strong arm, yet no brains nor accuracy. Or at least suspect accuracy. He was more like Kyle Boller who wowed gm's by throwing the ball 60 yards from his knees.

Newton, to me, has a very strong personality (granted, he annoys the **** out of me and I want him to fail) and may not be able to settle for failure or even mediocrity. That's a good thing if you're a team. Don't get me wrong. My gut tells me he'll be a lifetime 7-9 type qb but he could be a Big Ben type too, though a bit less accurate and quick in his release of course.

KEK, aren't you an Eagles fan? Give me your thoughts on Kolb. With Miami not going after a QB in the draft, I've got a strong hunch that when the lockout is over the Phins are going to offer up their 2012 1st rounder to the Eagles for his services.

As of now, I hate the idea. Not a very big fan of Kolb from what I've seen, but I admit that I haven't seen much.

I think Kolb is a career 6-10 to 10-6 type qb. He's better than his lifetime qb rating indicates. He came into his first game ever without having gotten starter's snaps during the week after halftime at Baltimore; he came into Washington this year without having gotten starter's snaps that week as well, and he played the last game of this year without Jackson or Maclin. For me, the one game that really annoyed me was at Tennessee this past year. If my memory serves me, the Eagles were winning going into the 4th quarter and they/he completely melted down in the 4th allowing 21 or 28 points, which was one of Kenny Britt's monster games I believe. Other than that, he played quite well this year given his situations. Having said all that, I'm not sold on him. While I think he works very, very hard (from all reports) and has good leadership, I'm just not sold on his ability to make decisions quickly enough (you can see the wheels turning a little too slowly for my liking) or instinctively enough. I'm also not completely sold on his poise in the pocket or decision-making at times. I'm not saying he's bad in any of these areas. He's not. But I'd rate him as a C+/B- across the board in just about every qb category other than leadership and intangibles where he's perhaps more like a B.

The good news for me is that I don't recognize any of the Raiders' picks outside of David Ausbury so I can't complain too much yet.

KEK & jm12, maybe I'm leery from the previous experience with trading for PHI QB's (AJ Feely) but I want NO part of trading for Kolb, I've accepted that there isn't a likely realistic and beneficial trade for Phins and that Henne will be starting again this year.

If they're smart, it's the way to go. If he sucks that badly, you can cross your fingers that Luck falls into your lap.
