What's new

NFL Offseason

Brown Notes

I wasn't willing to dig up the old thread, and it's a new season anyways.

For Browns fans this time of year is the best time. We know who all the draft prospects are and what FAs could make a difference. Which coaches/GMs who may or may not be retired who could possibly be retained with the right opportunity.

This offseason is dominated by QB talk. No one knows where Peyton Manning will go but wherever that is will impact who trades what with StL for RG3. My Brownies have the most ammunition (#4 & #22) but may or may not be willing to pay the price. For those of you out of the know, Robert Griffin the 3rd is an amazing prospect that would have gone #1 overall in any draft not including Andrew Luck. St. Louis owns the #2 pick and they have so much money invested in Bradford that it seems impossible that they would draft RG3.

I am looking for fans of other teams to fill me in on what they think their teams will be looking for in FA and the massively overhyped draft.

Cheers and loving looking forward to football without a goddam lockout!

The Rams are trading #2 to Washington. I expected it to be Cleveland and think the Rams are making a mistake. But, that's why they're the Rams.

That is possible. What the reality is, is that the two teams between Washington and Cleveland will be bidding. Cleveland has the clear advantage in assets and also has a young QB who they like. IMO Cleveland can dominate this discussion in any way they want. There has been no indication from the FO that the Browns are committing to anything. Believe me, I've been looking.

I'm a big propnent of building teams from the lines up. So here's to hoping the Vikings take the sure-thing Matt Kalil (LT) out of USC.

Redskins still have massive problems outside of QB and this may seem like a ridiculous price to pay, but walk 20 years in the shoes of a fan:

Gus Frerotte, John Friesz, Heath Shuler, Jeff Hostetler, Trent Green, Brad Johnson, Jeff George, Brad Johnson, Tony Banks, Shane Matthews, Patrick Ramsey, Danny Wuerffel, Tim Hasselbeck, Mark Brunell, Jason Campbell, Todd Collins, Donovan McNabb, Rex Grossman, and John Beck.

I think they're done trying to "build through the draft".

Except that the Redskins and Rams have already struck a deal. Believe me, I was hoping the Browns would be the team if they were offering their 2 #1's a future first and this year's second. If they offered that and the Rams still took Washington's offer, then the Rams deserve anything they get. The player they need the most (Justin Blackmon) likely won't last until 6th. The next player they need, Matt Lalil, will go to Minnesota. So that leaves the Rams deciding between Morris Claiborne and Trent Richardson. Not exactly what I'm hoping for.

I'm really hoping the Jets look at someone who will give them anything that resembles a pass rush. I haven't been to any of their boards for a long time though, so I don't know what the rumors are.

I do not believe Heckert will give up 3 #1s to move up 2 spots. IMO there are 4 blue chip prospects in this draft: Luck, RG3, Claiborne and Kalil. The Rams have huge need at both CB and LT. This is the leverage Cleveland has. If Washington sells the farm for RG3, the Rams start salivating for our #4. So Heckert could very well trade down to 6 instead of up to 2. I've also been hearing a lot of buzz on Tannehill, and with Hillis having lost his mind Richardson looks very tempting in that area as well. Cleveland has a lot of holes and you'd have to be dead sure about Griffin to give up the ransom that is apparently being tendered. In any case Cleveland can beat Washington's deal without even giving up the #22. That #4 is a big deal.

Cleveland could just as easily not take a QB and just wait for next year anyways. Barkley will be there. We have cap room for Super Mario and signing him along with drafting Claiborne could dramatically improve a defensive unit that was looking decent already last year.

Lets go Cardinals Lets Go!

I'm hoping Jonathan Martin or Riley falls to Cardinals at 13. I doubt Riley Reiff but man Cardinals need a left tackle.

STATEMENT FROM RAMS GENERAL MANAGER LES SNEAD AND REDSKINS EVP/GENERAL MANAGER BRUCE ALLEN

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – "In order to execute each of our club’s plans for free agency and the upcoming draft, we have agreed to a trade between our two teams for the 2nd pick in the 2012 draft. We will submit this trade to the NFL for approval."

Just saw that. Browns will either draft Claiborne or trade down.

Peyton Manning met in Denver with John Elway Thursday or Friday night. Interesting...

I fully expect to see Manning sign with Miami. I realize Denver was his first visit, but I don't buy for a second that Peyton will choose to play in a cold weather venue. I think it comes down to Arizona and Miami. Miami's got more going in it's favor IMO because they are a warm weather AFC team, he likes the city (already has a home there), they can offer the best LT in the NFL to protect his blindside, have weapons such as Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush, and it sounds like Miami wouldn't be opposed to bringing in FA's Reggie Wayne and/or Dallas Clark to help Peyton's transition be as smooth as possible.

Peyton is in the middle of doing his due dilligence because that's the type of guy he is, but in the end it will be the Phins.

Arizona has the best wide receiver since Jerry Rice.

Our punt returner has just two less touch downs then Miami's number 1 wr LOL!

Also Joe Thomas is better then Jake Long.

Only reason it's not a shoe in that Peyton goes to Arizona is because Arizona already has Kevin Kolb.

I'm wondering if there isn't a wild card in the hunt for Manning...like the Ravens. They have Torrey Smith and Anguan Boldin, and if memory serves correct, Ray Rice isn't half bad at catching passes out of the backfield. The main downfall, as mentioned above, would be the cold weather climate. Sounds like the Jets are out of the Manning race after offering a contract extension to Sanchez. A move which makes no sense.
