What's new

NFL Talk

Yea, it's a dream schedule on paper anyways. There have been a lot of Tampa comparisons. So far this has been as good an offseason as I've ever seen.

1. Organization/Coaches/Players all on the same page. Huge difference from the dysfunctional ego wars of the past. Shurmur is a rookie HC, but as an offensive guy he is pretty much focusing on his area and we have Jauron and Ray Rhrodes to run the defense. Holmgren and Heckert have put two drafts together that I've been really impressed with.

2. Promising QB. Colt McCoy has a lot to prove, but what he did last year in an almost impossible situation was incredible. This kid is tailor made for the WCO, he has elite accuracy on his short to medium throws, makes very good decisions and has a knack for making something out of a broken play. He's surrounded by a bunch of backs and TE's that are great receivers and we have a very good OLine. Browns Offense is going to be a lot better this year.

3. No catastrophic Injuries. Every year, year after year, The Browns have had some kind of awful injury to a key player. Courtney Brown, Kellen Winslow, LeCharles Bentley, Braylon Edwards, Jamir Miller etc, etc. This preseason we have a bunch of guys missing time but no serious problems, and last year's no-shows (Hardesty & DQ Jackson) are recovered. Believe me when I say I have been knocking the crap out of all the wood in the house.

4. Real, actual, young Talent. Hillis, Little, Sheard, McCoy, Taylor, Ward, Haden, Mack, Thomas. Holmgren said they cut something like 300 years of collective age. So refreshing after seeing regime after regime bring in a bunch of washed up vets to play yes-man.

This is shaping up to be the most entertaining Brownie season I've ever looked forward to. Woof!

Totally agree on everything you said. I love McCoy's accuracy and that he's a gamer. Build this year, try to make the playoffs (maybe .500 is more reasonable in the AFC with the Pats, Jets, Steelers, Ravens, etc.), and then have another great draft with maybe one or two key free agent acquisitions next year. I still feel you need a legit wideout though. I'm not sold on MM or Robiskie. Maybe I'm forgetting someone.

I won't cry SB yet.

I will say that the WRs are looking a lot less crappy than they did catching passes from DA/Quinn/Delhomme, in that horrible abomination of an offense under Mangini/Daboll. Cribbs and Robo in particular look vastly improved. MoMass never looked the same after getting cheap shotted by HGHarrison last year. Little is a great talent that slid from missing last year on suspension. TE/WR Evan Moore is a guy nobody has heard of that is going to get some notoriety. Dude is a straight up red zone beast. I think we are okay at receiver, it's just that nobody has an established resume yet.

I laugh at this because there was no helmet to helmet contact if I recall (Can't watch the video right now). You can say he was defenseless but my answer is don't run across the middle of the Steelers Linebackers not not expect to get lit up by Harrison, Woodley, Timmons, or Farrior.

Browns fan = Wussies

The only thing you have going for you is that the AFC North got paired up against the worst division in the NFL which makes your schedule easier.

.500 is a possiblity due to who you play but next year when it switches you will be back in the bottom with the Bungles where you belong.

I have nothing against the Steelers and certainly nothing against you but there's something about your homerism that is really off-putting. Because of this, I hope they go 0 and 16. Please do not take offense.

Cincy Bungles
Cleveland Stains
Baltimore Ratbirds

So I really dislike the Steelers division rivals... what is wrong with that?

So Jazz fans have to be ok with the Nuggets, Lakers, ect?

Not at all. You do what you gotta do bro. I can't really even put my finger on it. I guess the best way to say it is that you seem more like a Pittsburg Steeler apologist as opposed to a fan if that makes any sense. Forget it. It doesn't make sense to me either, but I still hope they go winless for the simple fact that I would like to see your weekly posts while it was happening. It seems like they would be EPIC.

What can I say? I'm a dick.

No, you're not. Cope just seems like a doucher.

Games from Thursday 8/25

Browns vs. Philly
Still not sure what to think about the Eagles. They shut down the Browns for the most part in the 1st half and Vick lead them to the 1 scoring drive. The Brownies have some young talent and even though I like the way Hillis runs (Reminds me of a younger Bettis with the Power and quick feet), for some reason I am almost just waiting for him to get injured (Madden curse).

Cincy vs. Panthers
Wow... Newton looked horrible. Not just bad but horrible. They made a movie about how he played called "Happy Feet". The O Coordinator was either testing him by having him only stay in the pocket and not design any plays to roll him out or is an idiot but wow...

AJ Green - Future Star
Dalton - Future solid QB
Benson - Future Jailbird

Baltimore vs. Washington
For some reason I can see Shanny turning this team around. I still don't know which QB you play as they looked about even again. I think by putting in the zone blocking scheme it will really allow Hightower to be a MUCH better RB than he we in Arizona. Also Helu continues to impress me.

Joe Flacco continues to look like a 'good' QB and Ray Rice is a Damn Good back. Will be fun to see if Flacco can use both Mason and Boldin effectively. Can't wait for week 1 vs. the Steelers in Baltimore. Flacco has never beat the Steelers when Big Ben has started so hopefully that streak continues.

Shanahan turning that team around? Really? He's made the playoffs, what, one time since Elways retired and got killed in the game? Dude's the most overrated head coach ever.

Colt made a couple very nice deep sideline throws. He looks like he has a legit arm, which is one of the last questions left on him. Robo actually had a half step on Asomugha (sp) before he got called for a push. Pretty impressive, looking at that play I don't know that he needed that push. Our Guard play was mediocre to bad, Steiny was out, Lauavo & Pinkston are both basically rookies, Lauavo hurt all last year. Pashos cannot stop good rushers at RT. Browns are going to have to call a lot more run plays to be effective in the regular season, but in preseason it's better to acclimate the QBs and pass catchers. It was nice that Hardesty finally made an appearance.

Phil Taylor is a beast. He was tearing the Eagles' interior line to shreds. Secondary was pretty good considering both starting safeties were out. Haden basically shut Jackson down, although the DLine had a lot to do with that. We have no depth in the front 7 but the starters are pretty good, especially the front 4.

FYI Mason is a Jet. The Ravens got Lee Evans who as a speed guy is a great compliment to the ultra tough Boldin. Their new TE looks good too. IMO if they can squeeze another good season out of those old defenders they will be better than last year.

At least Newton didn't throw any picks.

My mistake.. was thinking Evans and Mason came out.... Evans is the deep threat that I think that offense needed. I think it will open up the offense to having Boldin be more of himself (ie.. Arizona Days) and catch 90+ Balls. We will see though but I think the question mark for that team is the age of the defense and some of the turnover they have had the past few years.

Compared to where they have been the past few years adn the drama that followed (Haynesworth).. yes I see them trending upward. The unfortunate thing for this team is they play in probably the best division in the NFC or League.

I mean if he could have thrown some picks at least someone woudl have caught his balls instead of the ground... what did he end up? 6/19 or something?

Still better than turning the ball over, just saying. The Panthers should be able to have a power run game. As long as Newton is constantly turning the ball over they may have a chance to win some games.
