NFL Talk

Compared to where they have been the past few years adn the drama that followed (Haynesworth).. yes I see them trending upward. The unfortunate thing for this team is they play in probably the best division in the NFC or League.

Shanahan's been there a couple years and hasn't done ****. Hell, his last five years as a head coach, he's 36-44. He should be thanking his lucky stars he even has a job. Considering they have to play Vick, Romo, and Eli six times a season, the Redskins, with that quarterback play and lack of playmarkers at wide receiver, aren't do anything but staying mediocre. So no, they're not going to trend upward. Unless you consider going from 6-10 to 7-9 trending upward. They may be able to pull that off. But no better for years.

On a side note, my good friend and some of his buddies drank with him and a couple other coaches in Morristown, NJ a few years ago. I forget why he was there. I don't think it had anything to do with football. But they hung with him for a couple hours. Supposedly Shanahan left with some chick. Not surprising.

Any team that has no reliable talent at QB is in major trouble. Washington is hopeless this season. Clemons, Beck, Grossman. They don't even know who to bench.

Suck4Luck super sweepstakes candidates:

Bengals
Skins
Bills
Panthers

It'll be interesting to see what Carolina does if they get #1. They will have to sell either Luck or Newton. In any case I can see all of these teams struggling to get to 3 wins.

Bengals with a big win this week. Turning it around right in time for the season to start. Should be a great year for them. DALTON2GREEN!!!!!

I'm a big fan of Dalton and Green, too bad they are on the Bengals though. I think Dalton will turn out to be one of the better QB's drafted (Top 3 will be Gabbert,Mallet, and Dalton.).

LOL. Mallet? Really? hell never see te field and when he does, he'll suck. Dude is a major headcase, ala Ryan Leaf.

He will be coached under Brady and Bellicheck. He will either remain in New England and be Brady's successor, get traded somewhere else to be a starter, or sign somewhere else to be a starter once his rookie deal is done. Headcase? I think you are referring to internet rumors of drug use, specifically cocaine and marijuana. He only had one run in with the law, I think, and that was for public intoxication. Public intoxication arrest is not a big deal. His alleged drug use doesn't bother me either. He was in college. After transferring to Arkansas he has been praised by his teammates and coaches for maturing and his dedication. Dude is going to be a top 15 QB at least sometime in the future.

A few things...

1) Belicichk's coaching the offense now?
2) I recall he handled the alleged drug use questions very poorly at one point during the combine process. Maybe I'm mistaken.
3) No he won't. He's a statue and will get sacked more than Drew Bled-soe-much.

Marino had some cocain/mary jane rumors that dogged him during his draft too. I actually like Mallet and was really hoping Miami took him with their 2nd round pick.

And while Mallet may be a statue in the pocket, I'm going with another Marino comparison: Dan was easily as immobile as Bledsoe, but much more effective at avoiding the rush. While Marino could barely move, because of his pocket awarness he was sacked far less times than guys like John Elway. I see some of that in Mallet. In watching some of his games it seems like he has that ability to make the subtle movements necessary to make defenders miss. Don't get me wrong, he's nowhere near as good at it as Marino was, but if he develops that part of his game, I think he could be a future Pro Bowler.

Alot of it will depend on where Mallet plays when he gets his shot. If he bolts town for the Bengals, dude is done. If he stays in NE and is groomed by the hoodie, or lands with another stable orginization with good talent, this guy could be a beast.

You're high if you think Marino's as much of a statue as Mallett. I was a Dolphins fan for about 15 years and Marino rarely got sacked not only because of his quick release but also because he was great at side-stepping opponents. Slow as **** he was, but he at least had that going for him. Mallett doesn't even have that. Add in how he responds under pressure and dude's a Ryan Leaf scrub waiting to happen imo.

Good thing he isn't a running back.

Consistently having top shelf offensive lineman throughout his entire career helped a lot too.

LOL, half the top picks in the early to mid 80's had cocaine rumors following them. Do you really think that Don Shula would have drafted him to play in MIAMI, Florida of all places if those rumors had any validity to them whatsoever?

Marino had a complete meltdown in the bowl game his senior year - the FO's in the NFL blew it because that is what they judged him on.

His lines were solid but nothing spectatcular. Richmond Webb peaked as a rookie imo. So did the rookie LG next to him. I forget his name. He may have had Stephenson but not for that long if I remember correctly. All in all, his lines were average. Maybe slightly above average.

Keith Sims is the LG your thinking of and yes I agree with you, a better then avg pass protecting line for sure but avg or less then avg at everything else.
