Show me any tackle where 2 players are running at each other and the guy doesn't lower his head. I was taught to put my face mask on the numbers, wrap up, and drive through the carrier. Still opportunity to get flagged now in the no fun league as there is a good chance that the crown of my helmet slides up and catches the Qb on the chin.

The defenseless receiver thing is a bigger issue, IMO, but again, you don't have to totally lay out a guy to defend a slant route.

.

Agree but also disagree. Your job is to not allow the catch. To me the wide out needs to be aware of his surroundings. There is a reason why some wide outs hate going over the middle. I played college ball and all it took was getting lit up once and I wasn't going full speed without worrying about getting lit up. I think also more players get hurt letting up vs playing at full speed as we were taught growing up. Just my opinion right or wrong.

Correct. But on this recent particular play, Harrison drives up, not into McCoy. Big difference.

Because he hit him above the waist an had more force. McCoy then goes back and Harrison's helmet it bound to hit his chin. Only way he avoids is if he chooses to go with his shoulder only, which potentially risks him getting juked. I'll still defend that he was out of the pocket so he should be fair game just like any running back. The time in which he flicked the ball and impact is such a quick reaction that if you play "safe" you don't have a job as you would miss tackles.

Why are you hung up on him getting juked and missing a tackle? He couldn't make the tackle without headhunting? Because if that's the case, he's going to be facing a lot stiffer suspension next time as well as some pissed off teammates.

Because that's his job to make the tackle si you put uour helmet in the carriers chest. My point continues that he was out of the pocket and free game. You say Harrison is a headhunter yet that's his first unsportsmanlike conduct penalty all year. Also the fact that players are protected, especially quarterbacks as they now have a 1x1 foot spot you can hit them is garbage. Hits like this happen weekly yet Harrison continues to be singled out by Goodell.

I see no reason Harrison couldn't have just tackled him. He had his hands in front of his chest and just blasted him. Totally unnecessary.

Also, reading the comments on the youtube page and within this thread at points, I am somehow surprised at what a reductionist view people have of football. I understand that if you don't love the game and don't see it for the remarkable complexity and beauty that it shows, that you see a bunch of juiced up supercavemen destroying each other. What I don't understand is that adults in a society that should be smarter and better that love the game that want the sport to be about being tough and actual supercaveman garbage.

Let's try not to ostracize a league that doesn't want QBs to have ligaments in their knees torn up needlessly or brain damage at 30. They're doing the right thing, and most of the hits that cause permanent injury are avoidable.

Teams in the NBA have learned how to play defense without hand-checking and with players getting ejected for hard fouls. That's not what basketball is about, and neither should trying to take a person's head off. Save that **** for pee wee since those kids can't kill each other.

Comparing the changes in basketball vs football are not the same. Contact vs non contact. Big difference. With the new light on concussions I definitely understand the concern as I've had 4 or 5 myself. Hockey will be the next change so it will be interesting what TRUE hockey fans say about those changes. I still think they can develop helmets to prevent concussions better but who knows. I also think car companies can develop an engine to get 100 miles per gallon but that's a different topic.

Upset special in the works right now. Chiefs just scored a TD to take a 19-7 lead over the Packers with 4:53 left in the game.

Surprising loss by the Packers.

Who said they were happy and not worried that Cutler got hurt?

Reggie Bush with 200 plus yards rushing. LOL

Houston losing opens the door for them to not get a bye.

Buffalo sucks... Called their collapse when they were getting pub.

Indy gets a win!!!!!

Giants choke once again. Seahawks to the playoffs anyone? Skittles all the way!

Kyle Orton looked awful. The Bears really lucked out with Caleb Hanie. They are definitely making the playoffs.

anyone see SNL last night? There was a great skit poking fun at Tebow

not sure if it'll embed or not

well, I guess not but hopefully at least one of the links will work

Bears went after Orton but KC was a higher waiver priority
I know.

Doesn't change the fact that some Bears fans/football fans thought Hanie would be just as good if not better and shouldn't go after Orton. As if Hanie has shown a god damn thing.

Also, I don't know the last time (or the first time) that I routed for the Patriots, but I sure as hell am today.
