NFL Thread 12-13

Does he have to do better than he did last year? It was hardly his fault they lost to the Giants.

It wasn't at all his fault that they lost. The punt returner screwed over the Niners last year.

I was merely using Eli and Alex as examples. Eli was (unfairly) criticized until he started to win super bowls. Before, he could throw for 300+ yards and folks would find fault with him. Today, he can have clunkers, like that first game against Dallas, and no one questions him anymore. I think Alex has more than proven himself. But in the eyes of many, he needs to win that super bowl before people will stop questioning him. I remember after the Vikings game folks on this board and in the media were already questioning him. sigh. The Niners d sucked that game and Minny just came out ready to hand it to the Niners. Besides, Minny is a damn good team in their own right.

I think Alex is fine. Winning that big one will finally get the critics off his back IMO.

LOL

Gotta love all the pro Alex folks here.

I don't have anything against Smith. I think he takes more of a beating then he should. But lets keep things in perspective here... Is there an offense that hasn't had success against the Bills this year? Come now, it's not like they have the Texans, Seahawks, or Niners D here. They're dead last in opp. passing yards and one of the worst against the run.

You're talking about a team which gave up 48 points to the New York Jets. Yes Folks, the Jets.

The only team that might have a worst D might be the Saints. That might change once Vilma comes back...

Uh, yes dumbass. You're not exactly supporting him here. Here you account for his last game only as if he's been mediocre in the other four. Meanwhile, he walked into Sunday with a passer rating of 95. Freakin' moron.

It's hilarious how sensitive you folks are getting. Alex Smith is a good QB and takes a lot more of a beating than he should. But to attack me as if I called him Matt Cassel is just hilarious to watch.

Keep things in perspective.

Alex is a good QB. He isn't Tom Brady. Nor is he Matt Cassel. He's a good QB who is improving. He still has much to prove. For the 3rd time, like Eli Manning, he won't get the critics off his back until he wins the big one. Disagree all you want with that but it's true.

Everyone >>>>>>> Browns

Allrighty. Took a week off of sports after that stinging loss. I wasn't so glummed about the loss per se, but moreover this was the first game where the wheels really came off. Also there is a very real likelihood Shurmur gets replaced and that would be a GD tragedy. To me he's the best HC in Cleveland since Marty, and the best I've ever seen with QBs here. They are really really close, just need more consistency and get rid of that injury bug.

Specifically what happened in the Gs game was when D'quell went out with a rung bell the D lost its brain. They looked like a bunch of little kids with lead poisoning after he left. Looks like he's going to play tomorrow plus we finally get Haden back but now Rubin has a bum ankle and is apparently not starting. Could be really rough without him, looks like 2 rooks starting at DT tomorrow although both those guys have looked pretty good so far. Billy Winn (6th BSU) in particular has been impressive. I swear that Boise program must dope better than anybody in the country. They were crushing Fresno's line today with 3 man rushes.

Anyways this game tomorrow rather than a statement game or a comeback game, or whatever, this is a desperation game. The Browns absolutely have to have at least a .500 season or Shurmur is gone and probably another cleaned house. Ugh. But, string together a couple and we'll see. Cheers.

Offensively this team is right on the brink of an explosion. Weeden is already just barely ahead of pace to break Newton's rook passing record without having a vet WR. Weeden 257.6 ypg vs Newton 253.2 Luck is passing at an insane 302 ypg in case you were wanting to trash on Weeds for not being him, which is fine.

Gosh darnit you're one loyal dude.

1 down 9 to go. :)

Solid win. After being dominated in the trenches early the boys really cinched it up. Very nice especially with Richardson out. Weeds finished the game completing 8 of his last 9 passes. 1-5 not much to brag about but it's not like they stumbled or lucked into that win. It was done with execution and desire, and the Browns vastly outplayed the Bengals in the 2nd half.

About time.

Nice win. I actually did a three team parlay with the Titans 2nd Half (Th. night), Browns (I thought that spread seemed shady) and GB...a desperate team who can score vs. a team coming off a short week.

Ummm...

Today has been a perfect example of what I've been talking about.

Eli? Elite QB and proving it. Some of the throws he has made have been awesome.
Alex? Good QB but not elite. He has made some great throws but has also made some just dumb throws.

We'll see if Alex can bring his club down from big. I for one hope he does.

What the hell is Harbaugh doing? This Nick Kapernick experiment isn't working. They're not fooling the Giants' D with this gimmick offense.

Hey, not my fault. Coaches decision, then injury.

So besides the coaches benching him and him being hurt, he's doing awesome right? Nailed that whole Bradshaw sucking thing too.

Should be fun battling it out with you in fantasy football next year!
