What's new

Nikola Mirotic

In either case I think Por/Det will try and dump bad salary with a first, so the trade hinges on -Does Chicago change their request and take on salary to get the 1st or Do they accept something less than a first?

This sounds reasonable. If I were in Chicago's shoes, I think I'd be more willing to compromise on the salary taken back than the first (which would disadvantage the Jazz). What are they going to do umpteen millions under the cap next year? It doesn't make sense for them to chase a lot of FAs given their situation, after all.

Not quite. He has veto power because there is a team option next year on his contract. If Chicago picks up the option he loses the veto (which they can do, and then trade).

Which any team who wants Mirotic and is willing to give up an asset for him wants that second year. No team trading for him is just going for a salary dump. Chicago will take the best deal and add the second year to get rid of his veto.

Mirotic is not choosing where he goes, the veto power is meaningless.

Nah... Niko is worth it if he continues to do something resembling his hot streak. It is possible, but if he goes back to his average numbers he is a mild upgrade over Thabo/Jerebko stretch 4s.

Don't buy into the hot streak... it is reason for optimism but let's not go overboard.
Nah, someone posted the stats earlier. Even if he goes back to his average he is an equal shooter to the best stretch fours in the league (and even in the past when you include guys like memo) and a better rebounder than all except Love.
With our 1st rounder we hope to draft a good player that would fit with our roster and is needed. We hope. Mirotic is already that and is still young enough to fit our timeline. Plus he likes quin and would seems to want to play here from what i have been reading in this thread?

We aren't trading a first for him... we may acquire a first with Favs, hood, or someone else that we would give to them.

They want a first... I want a Ferrari... we don't always get what we want.
If we trade a pick for him I would assume there would be a protection on it, hopefully similar to the okc pick we got for Kanter. I wouldn't mind that too much

I mean would you give up a 1st for dirk? Love? Memo? To play next to rudy?
I would.

I scanned it... the issue for me was one year it is 40% and one year 30%... I'd rather see 36-37 or close to it every year.

If our pick is lotto protected and immediately turns into a second rounder if not conveyed then maybe but I'd still tank the eff outta this motha.

If we get him I will convince myself he is Dirk... if we don't I will convince myself he is Ersan Illyasova.

The other issue is contract length. I have written this year off already so I don't care about winning right now. So its kind of a one year deal for me. I know we could get him in and hit the ground running, but hitting on that pick would propel us to a great run... we could sign Mirotic in 2019 (or the someone else).

Honestly part of the drawback of getting him is he would hurt the tank... I am so on board with the tank right now.

Favors is out for our game, as is Mirotic for the Bulls game.

Hmm, that is not really a surprise. He looked like he rolled it pretty bad last game and tightened up his laces and played through it.

We are pretty thin at Center. We have Udoh and then hopefully we get to see a little Bradley.

Although its more likely we see a lot of small ball.

****, I want to see Bradley. Pump some trade value into him.

3 team trade brewing?

Jazz get Mirotic
Team X gets Favors
Bulls get a first round pick (16-24 range)

That would be nice but even if that is the case that is not why he is being held out. Mirotic cant be traded until the 15th. Favors definitely rolled his ankle last game.

Give them Favors + a 1st round pick swap (with protections) that if not conveyed by a future date down the road (2020's) becomes a 1st or maybe multiple 2nd's.

Niko was throwing up after the last game he played in too... The coincidence will drive conspiracy theories though.

He's never shot 30%, unless you're counting his rookie year where he was 31.6%. I'm fairly willing to overlook that especially as these were the rookie percentages for the following guys:

Memo 33.9%
Love 10.5%
Dirk 20.6%

He shot 39% the year after and 34.2% last year. Career total 36.1%. He also shot 39.7% in the four years of Euroleague before that on 539 attempts.

47% or 38% -- who cares? Dude can shoot the ball. Equally impressive is his maintaining any of those numbers on his Godzilla amount of attempts.

Hitting on that pick... What does that mean? I will tell you what it means to me.
Lets say we get the 7th pick in the draft. I would hope that there would be someone there at 7 who is about 6 foot 10 inches tall who can take and make 3's at a high volume and high percentage who is a decent rebounder and hopefully wants to be here.

You make a good point/comp about the illyasova thing though, i will give you that. **** it though, im all in. I know in drafts we often like to swing for the fences and think of ceilings and potential..... How does 9 threes per game at 46.5%, 25 points per game, and 10 rebounds per game from the 6 foot 10 guy playing next to gobert sound as far as a ceiling/potential/swing for the fence?
