NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

I'd be willing to bet by the time the Lakers make it to the WCF they'll be banged up. I'd much rather play them then and not first round. Plus JC will find his groove at some point. (Please, please, please.)

I think Lebron likely only gets healthier. That guy is a cyborg and unless he gets another contact injury he will likely only ramp up his level of play. AD has Rodney Hood's Disease where every game they end up in the locker room for a minute no matter what... so that could be a possibility.

I think we have a shot against them healthy. The only team that I think we don't really have a shot at if they are healthy is Brooklyn. If you make the finals and lose that's still a hell of a season.

You underestimate revenue from merch sales. And lower viewership for the finals will affect future deals. Just like has already been mentioned that the new agreements will be lower because of reduced viewership and fewer games during covid-19. That all ties together. I would bet serious money that the difference between a Nets/Lakers finals and a Jazz/Bucks would be no less than a 20% hit to current and future revenue, probably more.
Last article I saw tried to claim that the new deal will be 3 times what the current deal is. I think that the "NBA needs big market teams and superstars in the finals" point is entirely overrated. People who impulse buy jerseys already have a Lebron jersey. If Jazz go to the finals against the Nets there will be a whole 'nother group of jerseys being purchased.

Really though, the TV money dwarfs everything, and it isn't going to be less because the Jazz make the finals

Kinda like Murray last year? How’d that work out?
Jokic ain't walking through that door for Memphis. The problem the Jazz has was letting the secondary player go off like that. Making Ja have to score 40 every game for Memphis to stay in the game is a valid strategy. I wouldn't throw the counter as long as the Jazz are leading wire to wire. Save it for when things get tighter.

I agree it's overrated in general. In fact, the Jazz-Grizz game two drew more fans than the Knicks-Hawks.

I don't think it's overrated in terms of Finals. Maybe overrated in the sense it's not going to kill their bottom line if a Finals series has ****** TV ratings but for sure, there will be more fans watching a Lakers-Nets series than a Jazz-Bucks series.

Ironically, the Jazz still have the most-watched Finals series ever, and the most-watched Finals game ever...but that's more due to Michael and it being his final Finals than anything Utah.

Well seeing how they also had an MVP candidate in Jokic and we were missing Bogey in that series there's no comparison. We have everybody playing, Memphis is a 9th seed for a reason, and they have nobody that is even a fraction of Jokic. Denver was simply a better team last year, Memphis is not.

How are they calculating it these days? Is it based off of television? If so, demographics probably shift this significantly as younger populations are going to be more likely to stream, and I'd presume the age distribution watching Jazz-Grizzlies is older than Knicks-Hawks. Could be wrong.

If you think the jazz will draw the same viewership numbers as the Lakers you're delusional. And I would love to see that article because everything the league had been putting out since covid hit was decreases in revenue generating decreases in salary cap.

Edit: here is one article showing the decrease

Edit: and here is one stating the league is targeting a 3X increase in their next deal. That's a pretty tall order when revenue overall is substantially down and viewership is down 45% per the article.

So we should have no problem finishing these guys off 4-1, right?

I hope you’re right. But JV and Brooks were in foul trouble and the game was still very competitive in Salt Lake City.

They dreaming of 3X... I have to think that the live sports being one of the few things that draws people in to watch tv in a more traditional fashion. They might get a premium for that but I doubt they get 3X.

First we don’t have a counter. We do our thing and adjust but we throw fastballs... some inside some outside but there isn’t really a breaking ball.

I think forcing Ja to score a ton might be the way to go but only if we cut off Brooks and the role players... JV is kinda tied to Ja so I lump him in with that two man game. With Brooks I’d like to see the guys play him tighter in the midrange and for Rudy to step up hard at the rim. He isn’t the passer Ja is at all... the offensive boards are the issue still but hopefully Rudy gets a couple blocks we can control... hopefully we stage a few boards.

The biggest issue I think we have is being too predictable on defense. We could even run the same scheme but having some disruptive perimeter defenders would be good. Royce is a positional defender... Mike is the best we have and is small... plus too important on offense to be too handsy and get in foul trouble.

I think we have enough to win the series... I think Grizz have benefited from a couple hot Brooks shooting games. He should give us one bad game or two... as long as we are healthy we should win even if our shooting isn’t nuclear.

I agree, bit whatever is they come up with, the Jazz being in the finals will have exactly zero impact on that number.
