What's new

NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

I'm curious if quin would do that now, after Rudy's huge contract and some more all star appearances, dpoy's, all nba, etc. I will keep an eye to see if it happens. Not gonna hold my breath though.

He definitely won't do it now. Especially after watching that Favs disastrous performances against the Clippers from G3 to G5 where he logged a Drtg of 140. He's a shell of his former self, and another poor signing by this FO.

Just paint the picture for me please
Niang is in (or tucker if you prefer) and gobert is out.
Paul George blows by his perimeter defender and is heading to the hoop. What happens to the rest of this possession now that gobert is out?

We win the game lmao. It’s not hard to comprehend. The ****ing meltdown last night is at all-time embarrassing levels.

You didn't say how we win the game. Tell what changes when gobert goes out for niang or favors or whoever. Why does the clippers offense stop working?

They were 14/19 from 3 in the second half and I want to say at least 15 of those were wide open. If we swap that and they go 14/19 from 2 without Rudy out there we still win the game by 2.

I dont understand why they are hitting threes at a great percentage (they were the most efficient 3 point shooting team in the league this season) then rudy goes out and they are like, ok lets stop shooting threes even though its working great.

Yes, if Rudy would have literally stayed by his man we would have won the game.

BECAUSE RUDY WAS GIVING THEM A WIDE OPEN THREE IN THE CORNER EVERY ****ING POSSESSION.

Agreed. But coaches always tell players to rotate and help when a guy is going to the hoop unimpeded. Not just rudy. Even non rudy players will be told to help.

Why wouldn't there be wide open three in the corner when niang goes to help out on paul george after he gets by conley? Niang cant protect the rim and cover the corner three any more than rudy can.

You basically tell them not to help on defense essentially. We had that big of a lead and it was hurting us that Rudy was helping on D. You take your chances that they don’t score every possession and you know they wouldn’t have.

But quin could just say that to rudy too. Not that he or any coach in history ever would. It has never happened before that a coach has told his team to just give up layups over and over again as a strategy to win the game.
I mean we know with hindsight that strategy had a chance to work. But it would never had been implemented whether rudy, niang, favors or whoever was playing the 5 for us. And we dont even know that it would have worked. Maybe if quin told his team "hey guys, just let them get into the paint and dont help at all or anything. We want them making layups" then maybe his team would be so confused that their coach is basically telling them to give up that they quit on both sides of the ball or something. It would have to have some kind of mental effect to hear your coach whip out that strategy.

I mean you tell them to stick to their man and play as good of defense as they can straight up. You wouldn’t tell them to let them get in the paint or let them get layups.

Again though our players are used to funneling players to Rudy so it would be a tough adjustment to make. Literally anything besides telling Rudy to help may have won us the game.

Agreed. So quin should have just told Rudy not to help.
Playing niang or tucker changes nothing. The only thing that changes anything is quin changing his philosophy and telling his players not to help. Which he wouldn't do if Rudy was in the game or if Rudy was out of the game. Quin wants his players to help each other when they get beat.

Can you imagine niang being in the game instead of Rudy and PG blows by bojan and is heading for an uncontested layup and niang sees that and comes to help. PG passes to an open 3 point shooter who sinks the 3. Quin calls a timeout and tells niang not to leave his man. Niang says "but coach, PG was going to have a wide open uncontested layup" and quin says " that's ok, just let him have the wide open layup but don't leave your man open outside"

Ya I can't imagine that ever happening either.
