Not getting GS pick (or our own) a blessing in disguise?

Just thinking had we gotten both draft picks and taken Harrison Barnes at #8 and Kendall Marshall at #13, or perhaps traded both of those to move up and get Lillard...do you think KOC would have called it a day and just kept Harris and let the TPE expire?

I think losing the GS pick made KOC (and Greg) a lot more ambitious in terms of using the assets we had to improve the team. And with two picks next year (provided GS doesn't tank again), I think we might have an even better chance of getting a solid player.

Every analyst you hear talks abotu how valuable picks have become as teams look towards the onerous luxury tax penalties going into effect in 2 years. There were few draft trades made. Utah will have cap space AND a couple of pics. It's likely we can use those assets to pick up a very good veteran if we want.
 
No if we had the GSW Pick and took Barnes at 8, we would just have Barnes backing up Marvin Williams during his rookie season.
 
Honestly, the guys I wanted were all gone at 8. It may be a blessing in disguise. but we won't know till we draft next year. I can see Utah flipping our 1st + GS pick for a top 5 pick and getting someone really good, kind of like the year we got Dwill.
 
I honestly don't think anything would be any different. KOC has done a good job, and will continue to do so.

I think Harris was gone regardless. Jazz made a good faith effort and gave him 60 starts at PG - but it was glaringly obvious that he was not the right guy for the job.
 
Also spreading out our rookie contracts has value. It gives you space and more time to evaluate what you have, and make better decisions. Having 2 more promising rookies coming up for more money right behind Burks and Kanter could put some pressure on you.

And Burks and Kanter right after Favors and Hayward. We're going to have some decisions to make, similar to what OKC is about to go through.
 
It's hard to say if this was a blessing in disguise. The Jazz will likely get a top 12 pick next year from GSW, so it's really just changing a pick this year to next. If the Jazz had two picks in this draft, they might well have traded one of them if they didn't want Drummond/Ross/Lamb/Rivers. KOC said there were good value picks in the 12 - 15 range, so maybe this would have been a good year to have a pick in that range. It's Houston's stupid nosedive at the end of the year that cost us Lamb/Marshall/Henson/Harkless/White, etc.

That's what I mean. It will be tough enough with those four. Don't need to make it six right next to each other. Probably better to not burn through you assets so quickly if you don't have to.

I still say we should have tanked, but never the less, this has it's advantages.

Hell, if we arent ready for anymore players to come aboard next year, we might trade one or both of those picks for future picks come draft time to spread it out even more.
 
I've always have had faith in KOC, because he knows what's going on in the NBA a lot more then we do. I love that he doesn't rush to make moves just to make moves like The Knicks and nets have done, for god sakes how do you trade a top 10 pick for Gerald Wallace.

KOC is one of the best gm's in the NBA and it shows. We. Hear a lot of complaining about KOC sitting on his hands and being too conservative. Good things come to those who are patient. KOC may be conservative but when an opportunity comes he pounces on it. The future of the jazz is in good hands.

I predict next off season is going to be a doozy, and it's because of KOC.

KOC is definitely putting his stamp on the team now that he doesn't have Larry H. or Jerry vetoing or prohibiting certain moves. I guess that's one good thing about having a owner who doesn't care much about basketball; he let's the basketball experts do their jobs.
