Game Thread Nov 06, 2021 05:30PM MT: Jazz at Heat

Added to Calendar: 11-06-21

Not too upset about the loss. The Heat are a great team and it was on the road. Too bad the 3 point shooting sucked and the bench was non-existent, but still, a pretty solid effort at the end.

Hopefully they can win tomorrow. Wanted to see the Jazz go 2-1 on this trip and they have a good shot at doing so.

DM shot 4/15 from 3 while Herro shot 6/8 , got 29 pts. Tough one
This. DM don't need 15 3 attempts when u got like atlest 3 better 3 point shotter in team. Also i love JC but his usage need to go down couse hes shooting atm are not even for gl.Atm is not crucial couse it is start of season but in PO game like this one wii be decided by 1 possession. Also rudy left hes balls in locker room for this game it seams..

It's nice to see the starting backcourt play another good game. With the exception of Whiteside the bench sucked ***. I hate losing close games.

If I would have told y'all we'd win the turnover battle six to fourteen while shooting almost 52% from the field yet would still lose.... :-(

Not saying this game was a moral victory but considering the Jazz had a chance to tie the game at the end showed that the Jazz even when they do not play great can compete with top tiered teams. What killed the Jazz was poor 3 pt shooting, and poor JC performance and Miami's shooting the lights out especially Hero. I did not expect a win and it would have been nice but you get ready for the next game. On the 3 pt shooting, again the Jazz rely on it too much especially when they are clanking them. Sometimes you need to stop a run with getting an easy basket. Another thing Rudy needs some more shots when guys are clanking 3pts.

Right up until we went on our furious run in the 4th, I thought the Heat played better on a consistent basis. And I definitely think they got a lot luckier (bounces, garbage points from Martin, etc.). It's tough to lose a game like this, because I thought we played really well, too. Lots of boxing metaphors jumping into my mind as I watched. Gotta tip the hat and move on.

There are two things from this game that I think need to be addressed, not in the sense of "fixing" them but rather somehow countering or compensating for them, that I think will be prevalent in the playoffs:

1. Ceding mid-range to teams. I expected Bam to make every mid-range J. While it may be a favorable shot, what are you going to do when the other team is converting this 80%?

2. The three ball disappears. We've watched this happen and it's a part of teams going on massive runs against us. Yes, we had our own runs, but how many times last night did Miami go on quick runs where we couldn't respond at all?

And not to beat a dead horse, but we worry about the limited outside shooting of someone like Dunn but in a playoff situation we’re prone to long stretches where we’re collectively shooting like Dunn but without the awesome defense. It’d be nice to throw someone in for a short stretch who can get some stops, rough things up a bit, and throw a fork into the spokes of momentum. We’ve been killed by momentum in our last two playoff exits, looking like a deer in the headlights when it happens.

And the problem in our evaluation of this is that we look at the numbers as a whole and it disguises huge issues that arise situationally and aren’t obvious in the amalgam of data.

Not going to win many games with Clarkson and Ingles not scoring. I do wish we looked inside a lot more. It seems like we miss Gobert 3-4 times per quarter on either a seal or easy lob. Go for the easy pts/foul than a contested 3.

I really don't feel there's any moral victory here. Miami went up big and relaxed too much (similar to what we often do) and let us back in it. They played lights out for three and a half quarters and their physical defense threw us off our game. It looked like Rudy was half a step slow and once again as Rudy goes, so go the Jazz. He couldn't save us tonight.

I have not looked at the numbers but I don’t think Bam is that great in the midrange. I seem to remember Milwaukee dating him to shoot it and he oscillated between missing it and not shooting it at all. I thought we contested them too. Many of Jimmy’s were contested and he just made them. The one midrange shot we need to eliminate is the one Kyle Lowry and Trae Young got we’re they drive through and the big leaves the guard too early… that’s an easy shot and they seem to know it’ll be there.

I didn’t see it the same way at all. Donovan dominated at the rim and got wherever he wanted. Didn’t hit the three ball at a high rate. They were just hot and we were a little off with our shooting… we shoot 40% from three and it’s a pretty convincing win. It was a great game and I think we competed hard and stayed focused for about 42-44 minutes. Herro got two really open looks midway through the fourth that were bad effort/defense. There were a couple loose balls we needed to come up with that we didn’t. Rudy had one that Bam straight out worked him for and it led to a three.

No moral victory per se but a game like last night makes me feel better about where we are as a team than when we hit 50% on our threes and beat a good team. In those instances it was just an outlier shooting night.

It’s the nights where we let Dame and CP get the midrange whenever they want without contesting at all that drive me crazy. I thought we played the passing lanes well and contested a lot of shots. Thought we gave pretty good effort most of the night. Not sure why Rudy didn’t come back in earlier. Wasn’t like Whiteside was better or that Rudy was terrible. Maybe it was the dumb *** post up he tried.

I thought that when we were down by 19 they didn't expect to really make it close somaybe just wanted to give him a bit of rest before the Orlando game?
