Game Thread Nov 13, 2021 03:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Heat

Added to Calendar: 11-13-21

I had DVR'd this game and planned on watching this game later tonight, but went to pick some food up and a tv had a football game on. Looked up, and the ****ing ESPN ticker gave away the result.

Now I'm kind of glad it did. Watching another carbon copy of the last Miami game would have just been grating. It sounded like another patented Jazz "let's suck hard in the 3rd quarter to have to come back in the 4th quarter" type of game that just isn't what teams that are championship level do on a regular basis. I'll wait until Gay plays and see if he's a real difference maker before I write this season off as a first round exit, but for now this team still feels like it has the fatal flaws it had last season.

A few thoughts on the game, having been there up close:

** Mike Conley was the smallest guy on the court. He could barely get shots off even if he was open in the corner. He was also too small to have much impact defensively, as he could be nullified by one or two brush screens. It's a bit telling that he didn't finish the game.

** Royce O'Neal's offensive limitations off the dribble make it easier for defenses to recover on us. All he can do is fake passes, he's reluctant to shoot, and when he holds the ball defenders can regain their position. So against defenses that switch, it really puts us in a 4-on-5 situation.

** If Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro can come off a screen, raise up and shoot over our guards like they're barely there, just imagine what Paul George and Jamal Murray can do. We give up a lot of size at the 1, 2 and 3.

** Having a big (4 or 5) who is a triple threat like Bam really opens up the floor offensively.

** If Rudy gets moved out of drop coverage by a mobile big, Bojan gets exposed defensively.
We knew the size and defense issues were major problems for years, before we brought in Conley. We still brought in Conley. We knew we had no one who could hang on the perimeter or stay with the big wings, but we re-signed Conley and didn't make any moves to address this. Apparently the front office doesn't think any of this is a problem. This means we have the most likeable team who are great buddies with each other, who won't get any further than the 2nd round. I just don't see us getting though the gauntlet with exactly the same teams in the way and the exact same weaknesses.

I know Quin wants them taking quick shots but sometimes I think we would be better off running our offense and moving the ball around. Running down court and firing up a 3 with like 19 seconds left on the shot clock isn't always the best decision.
This is exactly what I said after last game. I don’t advocate for a slow 90s strategy. But I don’t think we’re valuing possessions the way we should/used to. We used to execute an offense and pass the ball around to the open guy. Now we’re just running and chucking the first 3 we can. Often the person receiving the inbounds is the one shooting it. Doing this is not only bad offense, but it frustrates Rudy and it opens up fastbreka opportunities for the opposing team.

Lol only rudy had more rebounds than him. Maybe u should apply for assistant coach or something i see alot potential in you
Last game he had 2 and the game before that he had 1. For the year he averages 4.

Are you really going to celebrate his 6 (2nd highest of the season) where the bulk came in garbage time?

It’s okay to admit you’re wrong. No need to keep posting and dig deeper.

Are we even going to get out of the first round? Indy sucks and Miami was without butler.

Mr expert im waching basketball for like 35 year's so i will dig deep as u want. What is your point btw? U geting what u paying and only in case you are lucky boy. Miami is team with best roster seup on east.will they play final? I dont know. Utah got good roster and with some luck with health they can do alot. Every nba team got like 20 ppl who are analize every single part of the game but here on forum u got 20 more but smarter who's requesting trades after every single game.As i said before wach games and have fun. Or don't if u don't like it .

I can see why the Jazz traded for Conley. He was a near All Star-level player who was available. The other glaring problem we have is that our wing rotation of Royce, Bojan and Joe isn't all that competitive. They look good when they're knocking down shots, obviously, but they're a pretty limited trio.

I wish the team would play this hard early in games and not wait until the end of games to turn it on. I dont think this team cares much about the regular season though,
There’s probably some truth to this, right or wrong. Not sure this squad has earned the right to take games off but it is a long season.

Ok.

absolute weak minded team getting beaten by chump teams like Miami and Orlando is it the coach or the players this team is going no where fast Mitchell will demand a trade after this season

Mitchell?

Honestly Rudy looks more frustrated to me. How many techs has he racked up in the last few games?

I don’t blame him. He’s ignored on offense and expected to guard 5 players and grab every rebound. The Jazz don’t look good at all.

I mostly think they know that regular season doesnt matter much. They will get a decent seed and what actually mattes is what we do in the playoffs. They have chocked bad 2 years in a row. Not that I think its the right approach but its pretty hard to commit to playing hard in the regular season. They just want to get to the playoffs fresh and healthy.

I was expecting better adjustment after the half but what happened is we allowed heat to score 37 on us. Don't know if this is coaching or players giving up
