Trade Kanter and filler for Rondo.
Acquire shooter with MLE.
Trade GSW pick and UTA 2013 1st for another stud wing.
Bench is deep.
Hope it's a championship contender.
I stopped at "Trade Kanter and filler for Rondo." Was laughing too hard to finish the rest.

ok now i get your point.

although the clippers didn't really get anything back there -- they got what is being called on twitter a "fake second rounder"... like when teams include the rights to a top-59 protected pick because they have to include something in a trade.

all it really did was generate a 1.6M (or so) trade exception for LAC to use. but i suppose if CJ is going to sign with another team, we might as well set it up that way, get the TPE (even if we'll never use it) and the other team saves an exception.

In that type of deal, yeah. The alternative is we actually take back a player. But obviously KOC is not going to be doing other teams or CJ favors. So if a player came back to make salaries match, it would likely have to be somebody non-guaranteed they could waive. Then, presumably, he would extract a 2nd. The net is getting a 2nd for CJ as opposed to nothing.

Ok let's take a look

Under contract this year

Williams, Watson, tinsley
Hayward, burks, bell
Williams, Carroll
Millsap, favors,
Jefferson, kanter

That is 12 players right there. Evans has a qualifying offer and Murphy has a spot to earn. There is also tomic and foster that are euro stashed.

I see Evans re-signing in Utah.
I see Murphy earning a spot.

That brings the roster to 14. I expect bell to be amnestied first. No reason to keep him on the roster and I don't see any team giving us anything for him because they know he wants to be gone and the jazz need him off the roster. No big deal get rid of him.

By this Time summer league will be in full swing. The jazz want to see how the young players are going to do. I would love to see tomic come over and play in the summer league. Not going to happen but would love to see it.

Now will this is starting some of the big moves will be going down. We hopefully will know where d Howard will be traded to. Hibbert we will know is matched or if the offer kaman the spot. We will know where dwill will be. That means players will be gone and cap space used. There will be a few teams that strike out and get nothing. That is whn KOC will move in and get an offer for either millsap or Jefferson (hoping Jefferson)

At this point the jazz have 13 players on the roster so worse case scenario is Jefferson bringing back 2 players. I would prefer only 1 or just draft picks if a team has cap space.

The realism of the jazz bringing in another player are slim to none until one of millsap or Jefferson are moved. I don't see the jazz starting the season with 15 players under contract. I would love a Brandon rush or Steve novak but that is not realistic at this point.

Question is... if we trade Al what are we looking for? PG, Wing or big?
Not a PG anymore, a wing? We may have logjam there if we do. What about a backup-backup big and a future first round pick?

honestly, i'd be fine with just a future asset.

but since you asked, the ideal would be a backup PG and a backup big. the jazz will go to a three-man rotation of fave-sap-kanter, but need a 4th big to play 15 mpg (the role kanter had last season). they also need a better backup PG because none of our current three PGs are really facilitators (except tinsley, but his legs don't work anymore).

FWIW, Al might put up even more efficient numbers if he isn't always being doubled and triple teamed. Not what people want to hear, I know....

He wouldn't always be double teamed if he'd pass the ball. Not what Al lovers want to hear, I know....

I could really see a trade to Milwakee. I like the idea of picking up Mbah and a top 5 protected pick if at all possible. We give up the much greater player and hedge against ridiculous contract demands from Marvin Williams next year. Mbah is one of the best defenders in the game and if Hayward and Burks are showing signs of filling it up along with Mo Williams it wouldn't hurt to have a lock down defender like Mbah. Of course the key would be to get the pick.

Also we could look at the cost of a sign and trade of Illyasova... if his contract demands land closer to $6 to $7M per season I would like that too.

Hell no, you cant let Al expire and then just let him walk. We better get something back for him, preferably some future firsts. I think that is the ideal situation. We should probably cash him out if we can without taking back salary. Then take another season to analyze where we are. That way we could take our assets at the end of this year and fix any weaknesses.

Al has to be a goner. None of this makes sense where we are headed with our bigs. Its either him, Kanter, or Paul. We cant realistcally expect to keep all 4 of our bigs. Thats just stupid. We need to deal at least one of them now, because its guaranteed they all wont be here in the future.

You know we have to take on extra $ in any deal for Al. I want the extra cap space for free agents and resigning the 4.

Daft. Here's the challenge to Al haters that requires discussion of events that actually happen in-game as opposed to message board whinery from JDS haters:

Here's what I see:

Jazzplay.jpg

Do you have any plays in mind that the Jazz run half decent? I'm not asking for anything on a, ya know, professional level. Just a single play that the Jazz actually execute.

I'm waiting for an answer.

Corbin ran a play where Harris came off a screen under the backboard and came up behind Al, who would hand off the ball to him for an open shot. Seems like I saw this on average about once or twice a game. Anyways that play worked well, although it wasn't run a whole lot.

I doubt this is the answer you're looking for since I don't hate Al and this is technically an assist for the resident chew toy.

These two moves here are about just adding role players to this team. Two solid if unspectacular guys with NBA experience. How much of a jump we make still depends on how much our young guys have improved during the summer. I dont mind trading Al, but I also dont mind having him for one more season with a chance for him to practice some offense with a full training camp and with the benefit of playing alongside a couple of guys who can stroke from 3-pt land. Maybe Al himself improves a bit from last season.
