I find some people who don't see things the way I do are actually intelligent and have interesting reasons for their opinions.
Recently, in a discussion with VinylOne, he wondered why I felt that "liberals" are sometimes the worst haters and most intolerant folks around. I think it is an intellectual confusion in some quarters, well, almost all quarters about what underlies rhetoric.
I find El Roacho has crossed the line on civility in this case, and ought to be infracted. Same with MVP. I think calling for others to be banned because you don't agree with them is "borderline" on the personal attack issue. Calling people idiots might be as well. I call everyone idiots but probably use the term on myself more than anyone else. My use of the term has a basis, a factual basis, in describing a fundamental disconnect between what I'm thinking..... well, what anyone is thinking. . . .and conveniently available facts or understanding which many people do understand. Humans are limited in their ability to fully incorporate all the information available, especially in this age of advanced research and internet information. I never use such terms to try to "evict" a poster in here. I imagine I am trying to either respond to something that's hardly worthwhile discussing, or trying to share some of my views I laugh when I use the word, or words like it. I consider turnabout fair play.
It's a nice joke to say something once like what El Roacho said, but repeating it and upping the ante rhetorically each time begins to just look hateful. Further, both El Roacho and MVP fail in this attack to back up their opinions with any relevant discussion of ideas. Might be they have reached their limit of having others who don't just agree with them.
Vinny, that's exactly why I say the political left is no longer "liberal". Conservatives have always been, sorta, at least rhetorically, somewhat intolerant of changes going on, but there is a strong undercurrent in that camp for believing people have a right to speak, a right to have different beliefs, and so forth.
The Age of Political Correctness is fundamentally intolerant of basic human liberties.
But indeed, I'm an idiot for thinking anyone cares.
