Obama Might Lose This

Oh, and just to bring this thread back to the topic, I hope Obama wins. Not really a huge fan, but Romney just seems like a complete phony. I know all presidential candidates are phony to a large extent, including Obama, but Romney just seems to take it to another level in my opinion.

The fact it's close means the Republicans have put up an awful candidate. Obama hasn't done much and the economy is stagnant. Think George H.W. Bush. But that year the Dems nominated a candidate worth a damn.

I remember in 04 thinking Bush the 2nd had no chance. I mean, everyone could see what an idiot he was and the he started meaningless wars, who would really vote for him? And the the Dems nominated John Kerry, and the wheels fell off even though it was a race decided by one state.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Nate and Cy, when was the last time a candidate truly inspired you based on merits? (ignoring the false inspiration of hope and change Obama won with)

Bush 1 and Clinton did a good job I thought. Bush 2 made a lot of mistakes in my opinion and the jury's still out on Obama.

Did they inspire you when they were running or did the do a good job once in office? I have not been "inspired" by a candidate in forever.

Probably Obama was the last guy to inspire me. He's a pretty great orator, but his policies have yet to bear much fruit, although it is hard to tell how successful they are as we may never know how bad the economy would have become without his policies. I do think he has continued to allow for a lot of the same moral hazards in banking to go on as they were previous to the crash. There wasn't any reform on wallstreet. I don't agree with that.

But when he was running it was all hope and change but no substance. So I do not count that to be honest. I am talking about being inspired by a person because of their policies and their in depth proposals. Not a "I will make things better and change Washington!"

So yeah, you're right. I haven't been inspired by any president other than the ones in the history books.

Exactly. I do not expect to be inspired by any candidate with a "serious shot". That is a result of the money and establishment backing that is needed to have that shot.

Look at Ron Paul. he inspires his followers but he does not have a snow balls chance in hell of ever winning. Why? Money and power do not want him to be nominated. (not advocating for him. Just an example of someone who inspires people and how he is not nominated.)

... he's also nuts.

I agree on some aspects but he inspires those who follow him. And he will never have a shot. Only people that ultimately can be bought and sold by the lobbyists have a shot at election.

Absolutely nothing. That said, it is not the federal government's responsibility. You can't take my private property forcibly away and give it to whoever you think deserves it. This is one of the biggest reasons for the American Revolution. Do you think King George had it right?

It's called free enterprise and capitalism. It's not perfect but it has helped shape America into the greatest, most powerful country ever. You have to take the bad with the good and there has been more good than bad. Even the destitute in America have a cell phone and cable on an HDTV.

This is false. It has destroyed ours culture, middle class, and moved jobs overseas to where things are cheaper. you cant let the dollar control you. Capitalism has no humanity in it, and therefore no chance. Government flawed as it maybe cares a lot more for us that business does. It's our job to make sure humanity comes first overall. Then and only then can we truly succeed.

Did you just praise collectivist virtues while condemning jobs going to the poorest people on earth?

I can see capitalism not caring for me but I do not think government does either. They want to control me but they do not care about me.
