Off-season Targets

I like to look at it like the old school flow charts

1st - is the draft and only figuring the 2 first rounders the jazz add a wing and a big.

2nd - the jazz re-sign Gordon Hayward. No resean to let him look just give him the max.

3rd - this is where it gets stickier and can start to go in many directions. You have to convince Ingles to sign for around 10 million a year on a 3 year contract. It might be less then he is going to get from other teams but he has the best chance to win here.

4th - let diaw, Mack and withey go renounce their rights.

5th - this is where the chart can split and go in many directions. You let hill determine his value if it get above an arbitrary number you let him go.

6th A - if below your number he is re-signed.

6th B - if above you start to look at other free agent point guards. Collison, holiday, dwill etc

6th C - you look at trading for a point guard such as bledsoe (if they draft a PG)

7th A - you see who lyles and Burks can net you in a trade

7th B - you see who lyles and Burks can net you in a trade

7th C - you look to free agency to fill in the rest of your roster.

You dont let Diaw go. You try to trade him. His value is as a trade piece given his non-guaranteed contract.

lmao, nice maths man. I thought people could use their brains. Apparently not

I said "He is 32 going on 33 and declining" you said something along the lines of remember when people said that 6 years ago.

I dont remember anyone calling him 32 6 years ago or saying he was declining. The argument was we have Favors who has more potential and we want him to get minutes. It had nothing to do with Millsap declining. No one was against brining Millsap back, but we wanted him in a backup role (or at least most did, I wanted him and Favors to start and to trade Kanter).

If we lose Hill, we should go after Mills or Collison. Resign Hayward, and go after Paul George. I don't think George will opt to go to the lowly Lakers once he's on a championship contender.

The only way Diaw is valuable is if you're taking back bad salary. So the question becomes whose bad salary do we value more than we value that cap flexibility?

What could we get for...
Hood
Diaw's expiring nonguaranteed
Burks
2017 GS pick
2017 Utah pick

Top 10 pick? Maybe start a conversation about Porzingus and Noah's awful contract (we would have to add more I know)?

If the Jazz are going to score another All-NBA-caliber player, the odds are 95% or so that they'll have to do it through the draft. That's what has gotten them this far.

Try not to miss on the next Kawhi or Giannis this time.

You won't get Porzingis for that.

Hood, plus 2 firsts might get you a late lottery pick. Burks is negative value.

Here is a highly unlikely off-season scenario:

1. Jazz re-sign Hayward

2. Jazz trade Favors/Hood/A First round pick for Paul George (Indiana does this because they know George is leaving and no one else is ballsy enough to give anything up for George). https://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jbddqod

3. Jazz renounce rights for Hill/Withey/Mack. Hill is too expensive to re-sign

4. Jazz trade Alec Burks to the Phoenix Suns for Brandon Knight. Knight has been a disaster on the Suns and they dont have enough minutes for him. Burks is a little bit cheaper per year and has 1 less year on his deal. Jazz get a PG with potential who can play off-ball of George/Hayward.https://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=zvdoavo

5. Jazz draft some people with their 3 remaining draft picks to fill out the roster. Hopefully someone exist in the draft that can be our startin PF right away from Day 1

6. Try to keep Ingles. If we can't, look into CJ Miles or Thabo Sefalosha. IDK, cap geniuses tell me how much money we have left. We can still cut Diaw or something if we have to

Go into the season like:

Brandon Knight/ Raul Neto
Paul George/ Dante Exum
Gordon Hayward/ Joe Ingles
Somebody / Joe Johnson
Rudy Gobert/ Bolomboy

Pray this team finishes in the top 3 of the West so they avoid GS in the first two rounds. Hope they pull of some miraculous upset of Golden State that convinces PG to stay long-term.

I think the ideas being thrown around in here are helpful, and getting us on the right line of thinking.

That is the problem with crossing this level. You are thrilled to make the playoffs and win a round, but you must go UP from here.

Who will come in an make us better. We don't have to even beat the Warriors next year for me to be happy. We just clearly have to have improved, and at least feel realistically in this series.

Not necessarily bad salary. I dont think SAS took anything back when they gave us Diaw. Some young team might just want his veteran experience and have free cap-space.

If Exum somehow takes a leap, we can always trade Brandon Knight the next year if we want. Maybe Knight has some kind of renaissance year and proves his value again and his contract becomes a really good contract with 2 years left. IDK.

Knight has proven in the past that he can score. Would be interesting coming off the bench if Exum takes a step forward.

Then you get a 2nd round pick for him. Call me crazy, but I don't see that happening.

Yeah but if Exum takes a step forward (which tbh seems like a stretch at this point) you have to pay him and you are going to have to pay Paul George that same year. You probably can't afford an improved Exum and a maxed Paul George all while paying BK his final 2 years.

Which kind of brings up the point of if Utah is willing to have 3 max contract players at once (PG, Hayward ,and Gobert). I'd assume if they trade for George that would be an indicator of "yes" in this scenario, but that would kind of make keeping an improved Exum impossible.

Knight is terrible, though. Like, even in his best year he was bad.

Yeah, a big part of me totally feels that way, but then a big part of me thinks it's kind of necessary risk given what else we can realistically have at PG at a comparable price.

Bad teams sometimes surprise with the moves they make. I wonder if Kemba is gettable from Charlotte.
