Off-season Targets

Yeah but if Exum takes a step forward (which tbh seems like a stretch at this point) you have to pay him and you are going to have to pay Paul George that same year. You probably can't afford an improved Exum and a maxed Paul George all while paying BK his final 2 years.

Which kind of brings up the point of if Utah is willing to have 3 max contract players at once (PG, Hayward ,and Gobert). I'd assume if they trade for George that would be an indicator of "yes" in this scenario, but that would kind of make keeping an improved Exum impossible.

Or you can trade Exum for something of value. We'll cross that bridge if we get to it.

I understand the thought process on Knight, but I just don't see it. I personally would rather keep Mack, Exum and Neto provided that Exum is going to be our PG of the future. If he's a SG, well that changes a ton.

I think the role of PG is overrated. Most great teams use multiple guys to run offense from and through. Kawhi, LBJ, Harden, Green, Durant, Wade, Butler, DeRozen and so many others practically play that role. Hayward can do that for us. I honestly think we struggle when we let Hill, Mack, whoever dribble around for 15-20 seconds.

Bad teams sometimes surprise with the moves they make. I wonder if Kemba is gettable from Charlotte.

No way. Kemba is the only thing they got. I dont think MJ is the kind of owner who is going to willingly go into tank mode. Plus his contract is gold.

Never say never. Bad teams are bad for a reason and much of that comes back to poor decision making. It would take a lot but I wonder if Exum, Burks, our two 1sts this year and an unprotected 2019 1st would get it done. I highly doubt it because those players are meh but you never know. We'd have to throw Hood in but I just don't want to lose him.

Watching the Cavs game makes me wonder, what are the chances that LBJ decides that he is going to play the 4 and force a sign and trade for Hayward?

Charlotte isnt that bad. They are bad because they signed a bunch of mediocre players and drafted poorly, not because they gave away dudes in trades.

More than anything, I want Hood, Exum and Favors, yes Favors, shooting a zillion threes a day with our shooting coach/specialist or some consultant like we hired a couple years ago. Boelein's son I think.

Exum' handle has improved to the point that I'd love to see him work on getting by his guy, into the paint, and slowing up so his defender almost runs up his rear, to where he can pull-up for a 12-15 foot floater and/or draw the foul on his guy as he runs up him from behind. Paul's perfected this. Hayward has gotten really good at it. Joe Johnson too.

Curry wants to prove he isn't a side show, leaves to a West team and likes the fit of the Jazz. Destroys his old team in the playoffs.

Looks like Raptors are going to be swept. With Joseph playing decent at PG and locked up for a few years maybe they let Lowry walk. Raptors seem to have about maxed out what they can do with a Derozan/Lowry led offense, I wonder how much their willing to spend to keep Lowry and if the Jazz could lure him if Hill bolts for some ridiculous offer by the Knicks or Nets.

This is a big idea, but its May so bear with me...

Clippers get Melo

Knicks get Hood, Lyles, Favors, Diaw, Jazz 2017 pick, GS 2017 pick, a number of 2nd round picks, and picks from the Clippers.

Jazz get Porzingis, Jamal Crawford, Noah and Wesley Johnson

Why for Clippers - Melo added to their big 3 might make them a contender. They cant get him without help because they don't have a first round pick and don't have cap space.

Why for NY - its currently a dumpster fire. Losing Porzingis would sting, but get 2+ first rounders, promising Hood, Favors, nonguaranteed contract Diaw, and young Lyles. Most importantly, they clear off $60 million in contracts over the next 2 years and Noah's third year. They rebuild.

Why for us - Porzingis next to Gobert and Hayward is worth losing all that and taking Noah's contract. Crawford is another bad contract, but its only two years. We can weather the storm and he can actually help a la JJ. You gotta spend big if you want another potential star.

I think we're setting our sights too low. We're a legit 4th possibly 3rd seed next year. And the way Quin is coaching and how Joe Johnson was able to flourish in our system I suspect we will be able to attract quite a few big names FAs.

Try to keep stuff in the realm of realism.
