*OFFICIAL* 17 on 26, Donovan Mitchell is the Monta Ellis watch thread

dude wtf are you on about .. that's one guy with like 5 accounts who's crapping on about Simmons and trolling about Mitchell. The rest of us love Donovan, don't you freaking dare tar us with the same brush as that snivelling little pimpled 14 year old.
I wasn’t referring to any regulars here. For every solid regular, though, there’s been 2-3 that have popped out up out of the woodwork in the last 6 months. It’s not an indictment of Australian fans, just the maldistribution of trolls we currently have (unless we’re assuming Jazz/utahjazzz is running 8 accounts).

It kind of reminds me a bit of the fears everyone had about Jimmermania. I’ve always insisted that BYU fans by and large aren’t Jazz fans, but the ones that are typically follow the Jazz superficially. I graduated from BYU but DGAF about their athletics (or any college sports). I was put off by Jimmermania and saw him as being JJ Redick (before Redick got better). Eventually I cane around thinking we just needed a PG that can knock down shots, so I was on board, and thought even after a year or two, he could still be a decent spot up shooter off the bench. That didn’t materialize and I acknowledge he sucks. But I remember the year he was drafted we moved back to Utah. I went to go play basketball at the church and one guy was asking another if he wanted the Jazz to draft Jimmer. His response was “No. I mean, it would be good for the Jazz, but it just wouldn’t be good for Jimmer.” He wasn’t really a Jazz fam but Jimmer fan, and it gave him penis brain. I can see how annoying stuff like that was what a lot of people wanted to avoid.

Anyway, long rant, but I’d view myself as the same type of BYU grad as you guys are Australian fans, with all the trolls being like that moron who thought it’d be “good for the Jazz but bad for Jimmer.”

You have always insisted that byu fans aren't jazz fans? You are a great poster but they might be the dumbest thing you ever said.
You don't think a person can be both? Can a ute fan be a jazz fan?

Btw I'm a huge byu fan but a much bigger jazz fan. I loved jimmermania and he is easily my favorite byu basketball player of all time (why wouldn't he be) and I wanted no part of jimmer being drafted by the jazz that year cause I knew he wasn't good enough at the NBA level to be picked anywhere near the lottery. Was so happy the king's took him before it even got to our pick.

Of course there are Jazz fans that are BYU fans. What I’m saying is that BYU is not Jazz nation. People assume BYU fans are all Jazz fans, when most people at BYU aren’t even from Utah. Lots of Lakers fans (aren’t they typically a large portion of the dumbasses that would troll the concourse in the Kobe/Shaq days?). My argument has always been that the correlation between being a BYU fan and a Jazz fan is nowhere near as tight as it’s portrayed, which is why I thought the fear of Jimmermania was overblown because the vast majority of people who would come out of the woodwork to vehemently demand Jimmer wouldn’t even be Jazz fans. You and I, actually being Jazz fans, wouldn’t have been pining for Jimmer for the sake of Jimmer. A number of BYU-first fans probably would have, and they aren’t regulars on this forum (or in Jazz nation), but they would have surfaced.

You think people assume byu fans are all jazz fans and people think byu is jazz nation? Why the **** would anyone think that.

No one chooses to go to byu due to its proximity to the jazz. People go to byu because it's a good academic school and because of the religious affiliation. And like you said many people from byu aren't even from Utah.

I don't think people associate byu with the jazz. We will just have to disagree on that.

I say it within the context of everyone thinking Jimmermania would be a distraction. It would be a few assholes who aren’t Jazzfans that would come here posing as Jazzfans, similar to a couple guys we have with Jazz in their name, but are only here for one purpose. The idea was that all the Jazz fans who like BYU (which is sizable) would create drama and demand Jimmer, which is false because people want to see the Jazz win. So that’s similar to our Aussies here who may have come originally because Exum/Ingles, but just want the Jazz to win, as opposed to people who simply liked Jimmer because they like BYU, and they’d be annoying as hell, but they wouldn’t really be Jazz fans, in a similar way that utahjazzz and Jazz aren’t Jazz fans.

Great explanation. I see your point.

I like it when my internet brothers disagree and then get along... That is Christmas Spirit AF.

Back to the DM stuff... I think the injury really did mess up his off-season. I was really dismissive of those that were worried, but if he couldn't go 100% until training camp it not only hurts his development, but just continuing what he started from the prior year... he may just be getting his legs.

Listen to the Weekly Run Pod... Tony seemed to indicate he couldn't really work much this summer.

Also I still believe that when the schedule lightens up and korver is all the way integrated that the team as a whole will start to "click" and DM will play more like we expected him to this season.

Less travel will not only create more practice opportunities but maybe also create more opportunities to heal lingering minor injuries that some of our guys may have.

This. If you look at the game after Donovan sat out for 2 games with his rib issue, his first game back he was great. I think Donovan is a bit tired and the dude puts himself out there on every given night. I truly haven’t seen him lack effort. Don has been asked to do a lot. I think he’s very worn down, and I think an extended home stay in the next week could help him quite a bit.

He had 6 assists last night. What does Tmac and you want 10? He gets his team going and shares the ball, but he’s the only one that creates on the team. He has to be in attack mode. That’s what Quin wants him to do. How are there this many jazz fans are there here that don’t get that. How do you not know that he’s fully a team guy who shares the ball, the point is he’s supposed to be in attack mode because we already have Rubio and Ingles that run the offense and create for others. Get a ****ing clue!!

You must be a dumbass. Having a 1 assist to 1 turnover ratio is not "sharing the ball." He's averaging 3 assists a game and 3 turnovers a game. Just because he has 6 assists ONE night doesn't mean he's doing it every night. "LOL 6 ASSISTS 1 NIGHT!!~~!~~~ WhAT ElSE Do JaZz faNz wanT!!! LOL~~~~!!!!"

You're trying to sound like you know more than TMac, Kenny, Shaq, Charles, and other PLAYERS in the league. Which is making you look like even a bigger dumbass

Calling someone a dumbass in the first line of your sentence you lose a lot of friends that way.

I’ll see your dumbass and raise you an idiot!!

He’s the only decent shot creator on the team. His job is to shoot and score. He’s also in his second year. And only averages 0.2 assists less than Hayward did, and that team had better offensive players that could score. Mitchell is still in his infancy as far as the nba goes. There’s going to be growing pains. He’s not a finished product.

DM's season is a direct result of DL doing nothing in the off season. It's too much to demand him to carry the team every night. The reason the schedule has killed us is that we have a very thin bench and we are wanting our starters to do more than they are capable of. I'm afraid DM is going to have a tough year if DL continues to sit on his bum and not get us another player that can create their own shot. If you had to draw up a defensive plan for the Jazz, it would be lay off Rubio, double DM. Don't let Jingles shoot. Simple as that.

Well, honestly everyone thought that just coming back with the same team that went like 30-7 the last part of the season was the right plan. Who could blame him

DM (and the team) will be fine when the schedule eases up.
