Official 2015 NBA Draft Thread

Lyles is more of a true stretch 4/wing to me. I think he'd work well in a PnR.

How in the holy smurf is he a stretch 4? He made a whopping four 3 pointers on 27 attempts last year. Ughh.

The Utah Jazz needed shooters but they opted to go big by selecting Trey Lyles. Lyles is considered a stretch four by most NBA analysts. However, the numbers do not add up and they do not need more low post players.
.
The Jazz believe they can turn Lyles into a stretch four rather than a traditional post player. The Jazz were one of worst 3-point shooting teams in the league at 34.3 percent. Trey Lyles only made four 3-pointers out of 27 three-point attempts for the University of Kentucky last season. It is hard to see what he can do to improve that percentage for the Utah Jazz. He is a versatile player as well.
.
He is capable of playing defense because he is somewhat agile so he can guard some small forwards. However, he can’t play small forward because of his inability to shoot. Also, the Jazz need to account for how they will play Lyles.
.
The Jazz already have Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors. Where can Lyles play if he cannot shoot well enough to play small forward? This pick by the Utah Jazz clutters their frontcourt players.
.
The Jazz may like Lyles’ versatility and drive but there were shooting guards and small forwards like Devin Booker, Sam Dekker, and R.J. Hunter still available. They did not address their need for more efficient shooting or pick the most talented player on the board. That is quite concerning.
.
It is good that the Jazz have a lot of confidence in their ability to coach players because they have a lot work to do with Lyles. They need to get him comfortable enough to shoot from outside the paint and develop some sort of a 3-point shot. It would not be surprising if the Jazz regret this pick because Booker could have helped them now while Lyles is a two-year project.

Seems incredibly low chance we have two rookies on this team next year. I think its a waste to trade up for anyone, this team has enough young players. Draft a foreign stash player and hope hes one of the rare players who comes over and is helpful in a few years.

I like this approach, it's time to start reinforcing the roster, not only developing it.

Locke says Lyles hit 25 of 40 corner-threes during his workout in SLC.
I think I could do that today in my current condition (old, washed up, and never play anymore)

In my younger days I would make 25 of 40 on an outdoor hoop with chain nets in the wind.

I like many others said "anyone but Lyles" many times in these forums. I thought the odds of him getting picked were minuscule.

Well, welcome to Utah Trey. I trust Dennis more than I trust my own instincts, so I'm hoping that this high IQ stuff is a reality (always nice having high IQ bigs on a team).

Plus he's Canadian!!!! Woot. Let's hope he becomes, at worst, Josh McRoberts.
Word
I hate the pick but what is done is done.
I'm hope I'm wrong about him like I was with Hayward and hood

So Montrezl hit the 2nd round.

Terrible choice to come back last year.. no?

Not surprised, and I said it before. Poverty Kenneth Faried. Don't think he has anything close to Faried's motor either. Just gonna be a garbageman type player in the NBA. Offensive rebounds/alley oops

Jazz apparently liked how he performed in the EXTENSIVE Pick and Roll drills they had set up especially to test him...

Chilax Smurf, that was from the college three point line, the NBA line is in a different location. Besides, monsoon says he looks really good missing those shots.
Lol

Haven't we been saying the same about Burke for two years. He has some good shots; they just don't go in!

I'm hanging my hope on PKM's reported phone call. If there's any chance of him getting inside info, it would be about a UK player.
