No, more guns is not the answer. But neither is more gun restrictions. However, the argument I've heard over and over is that "regular" people shouldn't be allowed to have guns. Only police officers and military personnel should. Often accompanied by remarks about the wild west and shoot-outs at the OK Corral.
For one, people have the right to defend themselves. I don't have to outsource my personal safety. I don't have to put my life in the hands of whatever emergency services is responsible for the geographic area I'm currently in. Police are not magical. Believe it or not police are actually "regular" people, too. No better or worse, no more or less trustworthy, no better trained than any citizen can be.
