SALT LAKE CITY (April 9, 2013) – The following is a medical update on Utah Jazz center Enes Kanter:

Following several medical consultations, it has been decided that Enes Kanter will undergo a surgical repair on his injured left shoulder. The procedure will be performed on Wednesday, April 10 in Chicago by Dr. Guido Marra. As a result, Kanter will miss the remainder of the season.

A return-to-activity timeline will be determined following the completion of the surgery.

Kanter (6-11, 248, Turkey/Kentucky) appeared in 70 games (two starts) for the Jazz in 2012-13, averaging 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting .544 from the field in 15.4 minutes per game as the second-year center improved his averages in every major statistical category over his rookie campaign. The 20-year-old Jazzman scored in double figures 22 times, with two double-doubles, including a 23-point (10-12 FG), 22-rebound performance in a March 1 win over Charlotte.

Kanter suffered the injury at the 10:23 mark of the second quarter of the Jazz’s 103-88 win over Phoenix on March 27 and has not played since. Prior to his injury, Kanter had seen action in 136 of a possible 138 games over his first two seasons with the Jazz, including all 66 games as a rookie in 2011-12. Kanter was originally selected by the Jazz in the first round (third overall selection) of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Kanter dislocated his LEFT shoulder. Original "official" reports said it was subluxed. It was not subluxed (partial dislocation). Out at least 2 weeks. Original reports said subluxed. But now they say it was not - it was a full dislocation. They said it did not come back on its own.

My apology the official word on Enes Kanter is a subluxed left shoulder which means it went back in after coming out of socket. *

To clarify Kanter's injury, a subluxed shoulder is only a partial dislocation, which certainly should help the recovery process.

I believe sublexed means it went back into place right after it went out. Which is less sever and causes less damage. Where dislocation stays out of place and pulls and tears muscles. I can only imagine the pain he endured when they put it back in.

In that case you shut him down to make sure its 100%. In can be a reoccurring problem and you don't want the tendons permanently weakened (think Curry's ankle)

Sublexations happen to me quite frequently. It's pretty much to the point of where I can't play volleyball or basketball or any sport where the arms need to fully extend above the head. It's even happened to me just trying to get comfortable in bed.

Even once it's popped back in, it's sore for a good five days. It also can be very epidemic especially if the ligaments and muscle become stretched out and weaker.

Just shut him down. We're already screwed for this season and a first round exit in a possible sweep does nothing for us or the development of the young guys.

I don't believe this has to be permanent, rehab just has to be diligent and rushing back has to be off the table. And of course, not have another similar injury.

I'm scared Enes is going to have to fight harder than most to get back on track due to how little he has been allowed to grow on the floor. If that ends up happening, nobody will be able to convince me that that's not Corbin's fault.

That said, let's see what happens. But I am beside myself. Pissed. Bummed.
