Official Derrick Favors Thread

The guy has Amare Stoudemire/Kevin Garnett athleticism, the kind of guy that would have been drafted out of high school in earlier drafts. He seems to work hard. Great size at 6'10"/246 and is only 19. I wouldn't say he's a project. He could be a dominant player if he wants to be. I could see him becoming 6'11" or 7'0" in a year or two. The way he plays around the basket, he could end up a center more than a PF. He's got the size.

From a NJ forum. Looks like dunks and putbacks are the extent of his offense.
Dwill swat at :20 if you're into that sort of thing...

Having a big who is both physically and mentally capable to play defense is going to be refreshing.

Wow, I'm surprised at the jazzfan having no interest in talking about a guy who has the potential to be a beast. Do yourself a Favor and react to me, jazzfanz.

1) most of us are still in shock. Or at least I am.

2) the rest don't know much about him yet.

He's not been in the league very long and has not played all that much this year. So I guess I'm saying it's a little early for this. However I wanted this guy in the draft and I hope he turns out to be a great player for us.

I was thinking about Evans when I watched the above video. Watson should have fun with Favors now too (ooping). By no means is Favors the next Malone, but one must remember - when Malone was a rookie, he didn't have much of a jump shot, either. It's said he worked ridiculously hard on his jump shot and free-throws, and he improved immensely. If Favors has work-ethic, it should be exciting to see improvements. The guy's a freakish athlete...

Tomic

I know I'm crazy to bring this up, but does anyone know the latest on Tomic? Has he put on any weight and improved at all this season?

anyone else notice how every highlight of favors has him launching off 2 feet? even the dunks on the break.

dunno what that means, if anything.
obviously he's athletic, but not freakishly so in a lebron/durant/jr smith kinda way.

welcome to utah, kid!

It's amazing how many offensive boards Favors gets (when comparing the number with his total rebounds per game). I'm excited to see how he plays. He and GH have good shot selection, which is somewhat rare for a rookie, as well.

Some players are able to get more up off two feet, some one footed.

Wasn't this kid (along with Demarcus Cousins) the one that we were all drooling over and hoping to be able to draft in 2010? I remember how all of us were praying that we get lucky in the lottery so we can draft either Favors or Cousins. Now we actually have Favors (along with a more than capable point guard in Devin Harris) PLUS Gordon Hayward. If we would have come away with this during the draft, we would have gone crazy. I am falling in love with this trade by the minute the more and more I study it. Knowing what I know now about D-Will, this could have been a draft night-type trade. IMO, Millsap would be best served to either come off the bench as the sixth man or move over to Small Forward. Favors is the PF of our future. I think that we finally have the front court to compete against LA.

I'll second the start Favors at the 4 movement. Either move Millsap to the bench or start him at Small Forward and move Andrei to the bench as the back up PF. My depth chart:

PG: Devin Harris, Earl Watson, Ronnie Price
SG: Raja Bell, Gordon Hayward
SF: Paul Millsap/Andrei Kirilenko, C.J. Miles, Jeremy Evans
PF: DERRICK FAVORS, Andrei Kirilenko/Paul Millsap, Jeremy Evans
C: Al Jefferson, Kyrylo Fesenko, Francisco Elson

I'm most anxious to see how he plays. I do hear he seems to get into foul trouble, though I don't know if that's because of poor technique or the rookie job from the refs.

The only thing I know about Favors is that a guy I work with calls him "Flavors", and not to be funny, he thinks his name is Flavors.

Where's Okur? LOL.

OK, does Derrick Favors have a twitter account, or what?

I see a few of them, but none are 'verified' (little check mark)... I'm confused.

Here is what I hope we do with Favors, and what I hope he gives us.

-Come in and play defense, and rebound and you will get lots of love around here.
That is what this team really needs from a big. We have offensive bigs. We need better RBing, and an interior presence on defense.
-When you get a chance to flush it down low, finish strong(it's something we've struggled with) Net's fans said the only thing stopping him was a mean streak. He has all the tools to dominate, and jam over people.

-Work with Big Al on that hook shot.

- Bring in Karl Malone to at least mentor and teach this guy how to play in this league. Malone is the perfect mentor, and Favors sounds like a willing student.
Get it done Front Office. I don't see Karl turning down a Hornacek type roll with this kid. I bet he'd love the chance to put his fingerprint on this exciting prospect.

We've always been waiting for a exciting young big like this guy. Net's fans say he is a hard worker, good personality, and has shown flashes of greatness.
He's just very very young. Takes time for big men to develope. If we focus on this guy, give him the playing time, bring in the right people to mentor him, we
could really help this process. I hope he comes in and just plays hard defense, rebounds, and finishes with powerful dunks. That's all we really need right now from him,
and that's what he can give us today. That would be a nice blend with Sap, and Al who can provide the offense this year (and next).
